Rule #1. NO SPOILERS, NADA, ZIP, ZILCH

We have movie & book threads. This one's geared towards those shows & series on Cable , Netflix and Amazon and commercial TV.

We've discussed last man standing, better call saul, breaking bad, Man in the High Castle and Longmire to name a few.

It's always nice to get a recommendation for something you'd look at then go naww. Then find through word of mouth you're missing a sleeper. OR Stinker ;)

We just signed up with Amazon Prime so looking forward to your suggestions

Netflix.

Marco Polo

Stranger Things .

Season 1 ( to date) of Peeky Blinders

The Ranch. 1/2hr "comedy" with 2 from that 70's show also Sam Elliot & Debra Winger.
DISCLAIMER: it is far from PC, loaded with alcohol and sexual (semi clothed) situations. That would have had all sides opposed to it if it were on commercial telly. However a decent 1/2 hr show
My biggest issue is the laugh track. Maybe on Commercial TV where they need all the help they can get. This show, not really, it actually distracts and not needed. The spouse and i find it humorous.

Spartacus,
Originally viewed on STARZ. The 1st season of the series has Andy Whitfield in the role. Unfortunately lymphoma took him. For you young uns who had Xena Warrior Princess as a a dream date. This shows her in all her glory. It's not for everyone, but worth the time

Luther. Idris Elba (the wire) is outstanding as a british detective with "issues"

For us MCU fans
Daredevil, Season 2 kicks it up with much anticipated appearances from The Punisher AND Electra ;)

Some liked Jessica Jones, little too dark for me, but it played. Put David Tennant ,Dr. Who in a different light

The disappointment for us was Luke Cage. Who ever produced it couldn't decide if it was going to be serious or a blaxploitation show. Too bad.

AND for those who missed it when on NBC... MY NAME IS EARL

HBO
Westworld

AND on demand THE WIRE.

Season 1 of True Detective. One of the darkest cop series we've seen.

PBS, Masterpiece Theater also Netflix
SHERLOCK

What's on your viewing list?

Irving

I've seen Jessica Jones and Luke Cage (I liked Luke Cage). Haven't seen Dare Devil yet.

Bloodline was great. It's a drama. Not really a cop show, but some of the characters are cops so it sometimes feels like it.

Ajin is the best anime I've seen in a while. Might have been done by the same people who did DeathNote, but I haven't looked it up.

We watched The OA on a whim and we really enjoyed it. I think people will be on both sides of the fence at the end of the season though.

I've had someone recommend The Black Mirror to me, but I've yet to check it out.

I watch just about all of the super hero shows. I really enjoyed the Flash. Season 1 of Daredevil was just so-so but season two was better. Just started Legends of Tomorrow.

The wife and I just watched the Pinkertons on Netflix. Not too bad for a western/crime show. Unfortunately, I think this one is going to leave us hanging because best I can tell they never made any more episodes and the final one they made is a bit of a cliff hanger.

Netflix - Peaky Blinders

Brutal depiction of the Peaky Blinders gang formed and ran operations during the 1920's in England. My most favorite random " hey let's see what this series is all about" of all time.

Of the three MCU netflix show I like Luke Cage the best, I almost didn't finish through season 1 of Daredevil, Punisher saved Season 2, Jessica Jones was okay. I'm hoping Iron Fist will be good. I liked 11.22.63 (hulu), think Alice with a Kennedy assassination twist.

Currently keeping track of:
The Grand Tour (Amazon)
Blindspot (NBC)
Agents of Shield (ABC)
Supernatural (CW)
Once Upon a Time (ABC)

Sons of Anarchy? Wife is binge watching them while laid up with back surgery. Forgot how good it was. Wife said they are going to do a spin off with the Mayans gang. ?

One of the reasons for this thread. Hopefully filters out or gives a heads up to what's out there. There's a lot of network shows NF carries. Along with other pay per month ones through the web, roku or other system

We like NF & Amazon for their "Original" series. Which for those of use viewing know. They'd never make it past 1 or 2 episodes if at all, due to some group DEMANDING A BOYCOTT over the content and Message it sends

Appreciate everyone's input.

Netflix - "Fauda" - (Arabic for "chaos"). Incredible show.

It's about an Israeli undercover counter-terror unit, operating in Ramallah. It is subtitled and about 75% arabic/25% hebrew. Pretty good combat tactics as most of the actors are obviously veterans.

I didn't like The OA, it got a little weird in the middle but the ending was full of itself. OA stands for original angel. The only good thing about the show was Jason Isaacs.

Black Mirror is good, it's a modern version of The Twilight Zone. Season 3 is when Netflix took it over, the previous ones are pure British.

If you liked Top Gear you'll like The Grand Tour, I love it.

Dark Matter is one of my favorite shows on SyFy. Killjoys is also pretty good but not on any of the streaming sites yet. The Expanse is shaping up to be fantastic, like Battlestar Galactica fantastic. I can't wait for season two in a few weeks.

I just finished 3% tonight. Not bad. The last episode could have ended a little tighter, but I suppose they wanted to leave open a possibility for another season.
I really liked the Expanse. I also liked The Magicians. In fact, I liked the Magicians the TV series better then I liked the first two books.

Black mirror is hit or miss for me. I loathe Orange Is The New Black. I thought Narcos was awesome. I get kinda forced to watch Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, it has some funny moments but it's tough to get through.

In terms of overall TV shows I'm really loving Vikings.

I'm wishing there was a new firearms related show like Sons of Guns or similar. Craving something technical about firearms without drama.

I caught the first episode of CBS' "Hunted" last night. It's a reality show were people act as fugitives and try to avoid capture (and win a prize if they can for 28 days).

It really showed the power of the surveillance state. I thought it was pretty interesting, though the people are (1) geographically constrained; (2) financially constrained; and, (3) aren't committing crimes to further their fugitive state

ETA: There is some pretty cool gun stuff in this (and many) anime, but also some dumb stuff.

The Real Ghostbusters is a cartoon. Works out well for me, because my 2 and 4 year old like it, and I get to reconnect with my childhood, a nice break from "Trolls", "Dinosaur train" etc.

I hope you're talking about the show I watched growing up. I'll have to check it out.

On my trip to Scotland, the plane had HBO's Westworld. I heartily enjoyed it (stupid plane landed when I had ~20 minutes to go, and it was just getting even more mindblowing!). Basic premise, there's this, essentially, amusement park that's set in the Old West. It's filled with animatronics that look and act very human, but they can't do real harm to the guests (like if they shoot the guest, it might sting them but won't kill them). Meanwhile, the guests have just about carte blanche to do whatever they please to the hosts (the robots). Sleep with them, kill them, etc, it's up to them (though the main command center can mess with the guests if they're being too disruptive, like make their guns jam and have a couple robots tackle them and put them in jail overnight, that sort of thing).

It's about lots of the morality, choices, self-awareness of the robots, etc. Like, do they have actual free will, or are they still just responding to their scripts and prompts, and it's all faked? Do they have memories hidden away despite their overnight reboots? What is it that the humans get out of it all, are they getting a story or are they learning who they really are?

It's a fantastic show. Lots of nudity (it's HBO after all), some gore, so not exactly young family appropriate, but it's fascinating. It has Anthony Hopkins as the main mind behind the robots, and he does a great job, as do the rest of the cast.

I think they picked it up for a new season, but that won't be until I think 2018 is what I heard. But the first season is great, and like I said, starts really blowing your mind the last few episodes.

Picked up a new show with the wife in mind. Actually looks like it's going to be pretty decent. It's currently on right now so not sure when or where it will be available to binge watch.

It's called "Mary Kills People" and it's actually on the lifetime channel. Give it an episode or two or three and it starts getting pretty interesting.

"Look who's back" on Netflix...

premise is that Hitler didn't commit suicide, but travelled 70 years into the future... gets discovered as an impersonator...
They were making fun of themselves making fun of Hitler...

I would ike to reiterate how awesome "The Tick" is, on Amazon. I was hesitant at first, because Patrick Warburton is not is the lead role. However, he does have input into the show, and it's still hilarious and is a little darker than the previous iteration. I've been a fan of The Tick since before the animated series came on TV, and I am glad that it's remaning true to the series. *GEEK*

Great entertaining series, good stories and fine acting. We just finished season 2, and should get season 3 from the public library this week.

We don't get cable/dish or broadcast TV, but can watch most anything available via the library system on our own time and at no cost. Best of all, we don't have to put up with commercials or the propaganda and fake news of the MSM.

IF you follow it through all 4 seasons. SPOILER ALERT it really pays off. Like any series has a few slow spots. But... it's interesting based on the time period and plays well.

Clare Paget who plays Anne Bonney is "interesting".

Starting to watch Mindhunters. Only one episode in.
Thinking about watching Black Sails if anyone has any input on it.

I felt it stumbled in the third season, then rushed to the finale in the fourth. First season especially, and first two overall were some pretty darn good TV.

That's due to it not being renewed for a 5th one. BUT, IMO it wrapped everything up nicely.

OK...I'm half way thru episode 1 of season 6. If anyone else has watched any of the new season, does something seem different to you? I'm thinking they've used new writers or something. It just seems different. The quality of the dialog is different, the acting is different, the sound and music...seems like a lower quality production. Maybe it's just me.

ETA: As TheGrey pointed out it would probably be helpful to say I'm referring to "Longmire".

Roku- @$100 OR Amazon Firestick (@ $40.00) (fewer free channels) (One-tie purchase)

Amazon Prime (bonus, Amazon Prme videos and TV) $99.00/year

Netflix @$12.00/month

Hulu @$12.00/month

If you like pay channels, they're available for @ $10.00/month through Amazon

or if you need sports channels, you can get Sling TV for @ $20/month.

FAR, far less expensive than what you're paying. You watch TV when you want, when it fits your schedule. You can still pull in local channels through a Leaf antenna (@ $60.00, sometimes on sale at Microcenter) and get the news.

Binge watched Season 2 this weekend. Last Kingdom = Game of Thrones without the porn.

There is a new season of Last Kingdom on Netflix. Not the best show I ever saw, but I got hooked on season 1.

I was recently notified by Netflix that they're in raising my monthly fee by another dollar. I'm not one who spends money for something unless I really see value in it. While still fairly inexpensive I realized that I don't watch Netflix much and I needed to start taking advantage of the service I'm paying for, sooo... I brought up Netflix on my iPad and saw The Last Kingdom. It looked interesting enough so I watched the first Episode of Season 1. Really enjoyed it so I'll be watching all of the rest as time permits.

Either I got used to the new way of doing the show or it was an anomaly of the first episode. Everything seems back to normal. I was worried.

Late comer to “Longmire”. Binge watched the first five seasons over a two week period. Really enjoyed seasons 1 & 2, I felt the rest were ok. I’ve watched the first 3 episodes of 6, I’ll stick through to see how it’s wrapped up. Haven’t read any of the books but have enjoyed this series. Not as good as “Justified” but I like a contemporary western.

The current base model Roku is only $40 and is freaking awesome (just make sure you get the model 3900, not the 3700 because they're often sold on the same SKU but the 3900 is the new quad core model wheras the older 3700 is only dual core).

We've been putting it off (waiting for 6 to come out), but just finished Season 5 last night and ready to get going on season 6.

Really enjoyed Season 2 of Stranger Things, but have heard rumblings that it'll be closer to 2019 before we get Season 3. They have said that they'll be doing a 4th season as well. Apparently that show, with all the complexities of filming, takes a while to film, edit and air.

We're also on the most recent season of Homeland. Without any spoilers, anyone watching, I don't like how things are going with Quinn currently. Great show, though, the wife and I really like it. We intend to get back on track with catching up on GoT soon- we're probably going to have to start season 4 over to refresh our memory- The last thing I remember is the "Purple Wedding."

"The Mist" on Netflix is....wow. It's based off of the Stephen King short story, and I really wasn't sure how it was going to be. I've come up for air after binging four episodes to tell you that it's really good. It reminds me of the early seasons of The Walking Dead...only the monsters sure as hell aren't zombies.

Warning: it's pretty gruesome. You may not want to be eating pizza or spaghetti while watching the show, and I would not let little kids watch it.

I don't mind slow at all. I just didn't like the character of Daredevil and I didn't like that the characters never set down and talked to each other like real best friends would. Not that the character development wasn't realistic, I just got sick of everything, kind of like Longmire. It also bothered me that every scene depicting New York at night was so clearly just a light shining through a piece of yellow/orange paper suck to a window.

I don't know what channel it is on, but Mike Tyson Mysteries is probably one of the most funny shows I've ever seen. I watch it on Sling. It's basically Scooby Doo, but with Mike Tyson and Norm McDonald and only 12 minutes long per episode. It's very adult, and it's hilarious. I looked up a video clip, and it looks like it appears on Adult Swim on Cartoon Network, which generally has pretty solid programming.
