I am going to Shot Show with the owner of APEX and our inventory person.

We have meetings arranged on each day with suppliers and potential suppliers.
There are also some "informal" meetings we will have at various other places related to the show.
Gone are the days where we just walked the show checking out booths that had interesting stuff!

I am not expecting a lot. Most of the new releases have been leaked in some manner.

PCCs, some new optics, will look at the CZs.

The MTAC is still higher priced than their new 1-6. Glass on mtac still that much better?

Don't know Erni. I assume so. Will see next week. I am supposed to be getting a few to test. My hope is that they are better than the Vortex SE and give a good option in that range.

90% (at least) of the booths look EXACTLY like last year.

Pistol: Tactical Solutions all made in house new .22LR wins this category for me.

Shotgun: Benelli SBE3...best hunting shotgun got better.

Rifle: True to claims, precision is hot. Winchester, Savage, Remington, Tikka (and others) new models all impress and will take serious market share from Ruger in the entry LR category.

PCC is hot. I looked at 14 new offerings, from jumble-builds to high end. IMHO, if you pass $1500 for a PCC, it better ALL be right, and none of them are...yet. Some good promise and there are a few in the $1K to $1400 range that are almost there. Will be a hot button segment for at least another year. One more short-stroke piston 9mm...but I am anticipating DI for 10mm and some other hotte cartridges just around the corner.

Optics, the Burris Binos and spotting scope are legit and I will be adding them to my gear. The RT6 (1-6) is a good piece of glass in the $500 and under price range. Good enough to use and compete with the MTAC for my favorite budget optic.

Precision Accessory...the new WARNE bi-pod is flat out amazing and anyone who is serious about their gear for LR shooting will want one. After I went through it, I guessed $450 retail...no, goal is $200 or less. Used Atlas bi-pods will be plentiful when this hits the market. I was flat out amazed. Supposed to be getting one for T&E before they are retail released. I have a photo, but was asked not to post it yet as they don't want to get flooded with "where can I buy it" until they have production ready. Later this year.

New Cartridges, .22 Nosler...yawn, 6.5 PRC...yawn

Any of them rival the JP?

Does the TLP-22 come with a bolt lock for firing supressed by any chance? For costing north of $1k, one would hope!

I would take at least two of them over the JP, maybe 3. The JP is the most expensive, but I do not think it is the best.

Slide-lock for suppressed is not in the plan as of right now for the TLP-22, but could be easily, especially if requested by enough people. So ask.

Just as an FYI, it uses 22/45 magazine bodies with TS base pad, so it will be inexpensive to convert current 22/45 mags to the TLP-22.

which ones did you like over the JP?

I'm not wed to JP in any way--just want a glock magazine compatible one. I've read elsewhere the JP has the softest recoil impulse

Recoil impulse is based on you tuning it for your load. I have 5 different tunes I can drop in mine, and in that aspect, they (blowbacks at least) are all really the same.

If I had to buy one today, based on what I have learned, it would be the Trojan. The ADM is pretty nice, and has a Giessele trigger, but the price is a little higher and it lacks a few things that are important to me.

Talking to the "designers", it became clear which ones had done a lot of testing, and which had just thrown something together.

The Hudson Manufacturing 9mm was pretty cool, and I really want to try it out on the range now that I understand what it is.

34 ounce, steel framed, striker fired, 1911 trigger, option manual safety, low bore axis, 1911 grip angle. Thinner and lighter slide than 1911s.

So the bore axis IS lower than 1911s, but it does have a straight back 1911 trigger bow. The large box in front of the trigger under the slide...that is where the take-down pin, locking lugs and recoil assembly live. That is what allowed them to keep the bore low like on polymer striker fired guns while also having 1911 style lock-up and trigger. It is pretty ingenious. Also has a pic rail and a cut-out intended for switches of lights and lasers...which several manufacturers have looked at and are adapting products to utilize.

MSRP is $1150, ships with 3 15 round magazines. Small company, but well run, so I am guessing getting one is going to be a bit rough as they scale up.

So I guess I sent too many people to Warne to check out their awesome prototype bi-pod. They said we can show pictures and talk about it more...

https://scontent.fapa1-1.fna.fbcdn.net/v/t31.0-8/16177684_1629354607367528_3264424796776885108_o.jp g?oh=ac50f48bbc17e1c6b8c58e501e96117d&oe=590A8481

Everything is deployable one-handed. On the leg extensions...pull out actual leg to extend and each pull adds one inch. Hit the lever to retract one inch. Hit the button to retract all. Also, a cord tied between the legs, one pull and they will deploy down from folded. Up, 45, 90, 135, 180.

20 degrees of pan and tilt on a friction ball. 8 settings to increase or decrease resistance. How assembly can be opened up to clean and lube if you want.

QD attach with a lock, one hand release. Small nut on opposite side that can be preset for tension and to accommodate rail differences.

The legs have quick swap feet and several versions will be available as accessories. This thing is rigid and gets rid of the hop some bi-pods have when loaded.

Target sale price is $199 or a little less, third quarter 2017. I guessed $450 when I saw it. Everyone who saw it who knows bi-pods was impressed.

If you are looking for a new AR pattern .308, the Savage looks to be really good. It is pretty close to my current favorite, the DD5V1 (and 2), but adds a tuneable gas system and a better brake. Weighs a little more, but at a lower price tag. .308Win or 6.5CM.

This has my attention.

I doubt it will get here anytime soon, but I am going to be able to test a T&E version prior to them making a production run. Hopefully it will come in a timeframe I can get to the CRC Precision match so a bunch of you can take a look at it, beat on it, etc.
