With all the snow, we decided to make ice cream with the boys. At 1 and 3, they think this is the best idea ever. I remember having it when I was young as well. It stilll tastes as good as I remember.

1gallon snow
2 cups milk
1 cup sugar
1 tablespoon vanilla, maybe a little more

Great idea! My daughter is gonna love this.

You just mix it all up?

We sat in front of the wood burning stove and ate half of it while watching cartoons. You can get a brain freeze while being warm.

Never one to be satisfied with stock recipes, when I was a kid I'd take the above recipe and add in a few heaping tablespoons of Swiss Miss cocoa mix to get chocolate snow ice cream. I'd have used Hersheys syrup, but we never had any in the house.

Your kids will thank you for this kind of interaction later in life! Way to do parenting right!

I certainly look back at how my parents raised me and my brothers, and I am thankful, and I have thanked them for it.

We have snow ice cream for dessert sometimes for our backcountry hut trips. To save weight, we use sweetened condensed milk instead of packing in the milk & sugar. Fresh powder is the best, but you can make due with lighter snow in the snowpack.
Add frozen strawberries too!

My grandpa and I used to do this. Great childhood memories....

Sounds neat. Growing up in the South, we didn't have snow. However, when at Granny and Granddaddy's place, about every 30 seconds the oscillating fan would briefly turn towards you and that was nice.
