News:
"A 24-year-old man killed in what appears to have been a high-speed crash over the weekend (http://www.9news.com/news/local/man-found-dead-in-maserati/386234966) worked at the Maserati dealership that owned the vehicle, Douglas County sheriff’s investigators confirmed Monday.
Gianopoulos apparently lost control of the 2017 Maserati sometime Friday night or early Saturday morning as he was driving near C-470 and Lucent in Highlands Ranch.
A passer-by called for help about 9:40 a.m. Saturday after discovering the heavily damaged car in a retention pond near the intersection of Plaza Drive and Flyin’ B Way. When sheriff’s deputies arrived, they found Gianopoulos dead inside the car, which was covered by overnight frost.
According to his LinkedIn page, Gianopoulos had been a sales associate at the dealership since October.
On Friday night at 7:25, a live video appeared on his Facebook account.
The 27-second clip shows someone behind the wheel of a Maserati accelerating from 2 miles an hour to 111 miles an hour.
The sheriff's office is not commenting on whether or not the social media video was a factor in the crash."
I saw that news the day that happened, not far from where I live.

I once worked for a dealership and should be dead today. Taking cars out that are fast as hell and you don't own them is a drug. Just saying.
WHY do people take all these selfies in the bathroom?
Not to mention it looks like a public bathroom to boot.
Saw that story in the Post . . . not too far from where I live. What an idiot. Not a road I want to be driving 100+ mph on . . . much less doing it one-handed and trying to catch a vid of the speedometer.

I guess the dealer is hiring?

Same here I'm about 1 mile from where it happens and like hell I'd go that fast there

From the cbs website:
The short video shows the vehicle going from zero to 111 miles per hour in just about 20 seconds
Sounds pretty weak for a maserati... My 2000 pontiac grand prix did the quarter mile at bandi at 105mph in about 13 seconds. Give me seven more seconds worth of road and I'd be way over 111.
Well he obviously was granny shifting and definitely not double clutching.

^^^^^What you said may be the best thing to come out of that series.
You guys are brutal.
I hope I never die recklessly driving a Maserati after putting selfies online. [LOL]

The road he was on is pretty short (for going that fast) and is nowhere near straight or flat. But it's pretty isolated (relative to the general area), so he probably thought it was as good a place as any. Poor choice on multiple levels and he paid the ultimate price.

Boss got a new toy for me to play with.. F12... it won't end up in a pond when I drive it

Track days are relatively cheap. Fortunately he didn't take anyone with him.
A young man with a promising career & an addiction to being healthy makes a mistake (that many of us males have) which cost him his life & is made a punchline here? Tough crowd.

Kind of what I was thinking, but I wouldn't expect this impeccable crowd to have any sort of compassion. I know where I won't be coming to ask for prayers if myself or my family ever makes a mistake and ends up in a bad position.
The wisdom to make good choices comes from experience, experience comes from bad choices. One just has to hope that one survives the bad choices.

But for the grace of God go I... please don't hold back a need because of the potential for people lacking compassion.
Also, some folks might say the things they do because they're not sure how to reply to something like this. When things become uncomfortable, people often turn to dark humor.
The hours that the crash occurred essentially means that the car was stolen. At least that's how it happened when sales people would wreck vehicles back when I worked at a dealership.

I would like to see a toxicology report before I make any judgement. Sorry for being so clinical.

Sucks for the guy and his family, but this wasn't just a mistake... going 110+ mph on regular streets is pretty ignorant disregard for his life and anyone else who happened to be on the roads. This falls under "play stupid games win stupid prizes" for me.

I sold cars & there was a 'demo program' depending on sales #'s & tenure. The better your #'s the better the vehicle you could take home. The top sales dog usually got their pick of the lot.

If it comes out this guy was drunk as a skunk we can criticize him for making poor choices or feel bad that he had a disease which he succumbed to but as of now we know nothing & the snap to judgement based on superficial facts is disappointing.

I never said it was a mistake or a tragedy (I hate how that word gets thrown around). It certainly wasn't a comedic routine either. The reality lies somewhere in the middle. I just feel like we were all in our early 20's once & made stupid decisions that also could have resulted in our death or maybe even that of others. By dumb luck that didn't happen & now we're going to attack this guy like we're so much better than him? Doesn't seem right & I'm sure nobody here would like treatment or judgement applied to them or a family member.

A few people on here might surprise you. I got quite a few private messages when I was dealing with my moms stuff over the holidays.
Some were not surprising at all, but some were.
Every little bit helps..

I may have misspoke, as I certainly didn't mean everyone on the forum, there are some amazing folks here for sure (I have some very good friends I met on here).

For roids?
Interesting. I was staying in Lakewood Sat. night, near Kipling and i470. About 1:00-2:00am someone came down the very residential road like their azz was on fire. Made a hell of a noise.

After reading some of the posts in here, I am a bit taken back at some of the responses I have seen. As poor as his decision was, I still feel bad for him and his family. Brandon was one my friends little brother who I grew up with in middle school. Seeing all the posts on his older brothers FB page blowing up with people who know their family hits a little close to home for me as my brother and I are the same age distance as they were.
I am no way defending what he did, nor condoning it, but I wouldn't be the one to call the kettle black. I am sure many of us here are guilty of the same crime in some way shape or form; myself included. His family is in my prayers and may he RIP.
I'm just waiting for the parents to sue Mike Ward for letting their precious snowflake get killed by Mike's evil car.
Nevermind the speed, the selfishness of making a video of yourself abusing your employer's trust and disrespecting your employers property is astounding.
I did high speed things when I was younger but I NEVER did them in someone else's car, always my own property.
Should have been driving a Ferrari
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4133936/Texas-man-28-drove-385k-Ferrari-bridge-100mph.html
A Texas man and his passengers miraculously escaped death in a dramatic crash after he drunk-drove a $385,000 Ferrari into a ravine at more than 100mph, police said.
James Allen, 28, was racing down the Red Bud Trail outside Austin at around 2:30am Friday when he missed a turn and spun out, sending his car careening off a 40-foot-high bridge, police said.
The limited production 2015 Ferrari flipped over once before landing in the ravine, smashing up the beer bottles and cans packed inside - and yet no-one was injured,CBS News reported.

I said the same thing to my wife this morning. I won't be surprised in the least if the family sues for making the vehicle available.
I'm a compassionate guy. Life can be tough and I've experienced plenty myself. What doesn't get my sympathy is someone placing their narcissism above risking the lives of others and even their own survival.

Me too, I reserve my compassion for people who deserve it. Narcissism - exactly what happened with this kid.

Jer, I haven't poked you in a while, so here it is.
Looks like said mistake to me.
Young men often do stupid things, it goes along with being young and male.
Unfortunately the cost is also often high.

It's definitely hard to be compassionate to all. There are 320 million people in this country. Some die over needless and foolish things/choices.
And let's not forget we have 18 year olds who raise their right hand to go to war for us. Some of them will die too through no fault of their own, other than being heroes of course. Not to mention those already lost and forgotten by a mostly ungrateful public.
Compare/contrast. Hard thing indeed.
I will go on the record now and say if I make the same choice with the same outcome, feel free to mock me. But if I post selfies first, you may need counseling. [LOL]

Don't GoPro me bro!
My compassion only goes so far with stuff like this. It's sad anytime someone loses their life . . . and it tears families apart. So I feel for their pain. At the same time, this was not far from where I live and my family and I do sometimes drive that road. It easily could have been one of us or one of our friends/neighbors on that road when this dude decided to play formula one with (apparently) one hand on the wheel and his eyes on filming the dash instead of watching the road. Damn lucky nobody else was killed in the course of this stunt . . . could have tumbled into an oncoming car or a late night pedestrian instead of just running off the road.
Am I guilty of doing stupid things? Yes. Nothing THIS stupid and reckless, though. And if I had done this and ended up with the same outcome, I would expect the Internet to see the idiocy and the lesson in it.
