Anyone know how this will effect the other services? Interesting that the Sig P320 failed the FBI's testing who adopted the Glock 17M, while
the Army chose the Sig offering.

Maybe we will start seeing surplus m9s pop up

I have a Sig P320 SC in 9mm. It is a great pistol and the modularity allows me to swap out the fire control group with other frame sizes and calibers. Replaced my Glock 36 for EDC.

I'm guessing there was a lot of behind the scenes politics and probably some greasing of palms involved in that decision.

$580 Million contract. Politics and payoffs you say? [panic]

I like my P250 and the modular design of the pistol makes it easy to switch calibers or sizes. So easy to strip it down to the bare FCU. It is just about soldier proof.

I'm sure the Beretta was probably soldier proof too. [LOL]

Heck, the CZ P-01 already has an NSN, and at least has a decocker.

No mention of caliber. Or is it just assumed it's 9MM? I can't imagine them changing caliber.

I would assume the point of the Modular Handgun System is to start in 9mm to use existing ammo stocks and contracts but allow them to transition to a more combat-effective caliber if/when desired.

Very disappointed, can't we get an American company to make our weapons for our soldiers. Yes I know these will be made state side but all the money goes to a German company.

Sig Sauer Inc. Corporate HQ is now in Newington NH. As a private company there are no SEC filings I can get at but I assume they are incorporated in NH.

Yes, this will mean a lot of jobs right here in the US (P320 has always been made here). Prior to this announcement Sig purchased a facility in Arkansas to "avoid higher power costs" in NH. I wouldn't be surprised if they start shifting a lot of production to AR from NH.

Germany has not been kind to Sig. About three years ago (IIRC) the Germany government opened a criminal investigation about pistols found in Columbia (export ban). Turns out those guns came from the US. Didn't matter. Sig has shut down almost all production in Germany and even makes the former "Mastershop" offerings like the P226X5 in the US.

IMHO this is great news. The only thing better would have been a classic P series, but that wasn't the bid. They cared more about a manual safety than a de-cocker and wanted a striker. They want modularity. And now the full size and compacts will be essentially the same which is smart. The frames, barrels, slides can all be replaced as needed with minimum skill/cost. Servicing the FCUs will probably require more skill but will probably also have the longest service life.

I'd rather see the workers here get paid than have the corporate profits. More people here will benefit with people working than with a few execs and shareholders getting extra ROI.

Sig is a US company. These pistols are produced in the good ol' USA.

Any way you slice it Americans are making these guns in America. Not to mention all the fringe jobs for other associated companies. It's a good thing.

As others have said, SIG is mostly a US company now and is more of a US company than Beretta.

Have a 320 compact. Nice shooter. Once the money tree out back blooms again I may purchase a full sized frame and slide. Crap. And a full sized barrel. C'mon, spring! Better weather will help the tree...

I haven't seen any discussion on the decision to move from a hammer to a striker fired pistol. Was that part of the requirements? Or just the way of the future?

Another safe pistol that is easy to rack the slide.

Replaced my Glock 36 for EDC.
Blasphemy! [panic]

The G36 is an odd duck, but it works well for me where most of the other Glocks don't. I may have to check out a P320.
