View Full Version : Business Card inside my car door - damages/repairs owed? RANT

So I approached my car tonight in the RTD parking garage. It had a business card mostly inside the drivers door window weather seal. I tried to get it and it just dropped completely inside the car door. It wouldn't have stayed until I got home to retrieve it with anything else; pliers or whatever.
So I grabbed another card from another vehicle in the same area. It's some Automotive Repair Shop.
I don't know what or if any issues will result from the business card being in my door.
It might fall to the bottom and absorb water and rot/rust the door from the inside out.
It might get jammed up inside a window track or power window motor.
It might cause issues with the power door locks.
It could cause no harm at all. Very unknown.
I've contacted the business vial email to see what they plan to do about it. I've googled the business and based on reviews, I do not want them touching my vehicle. I don't feel it's necessary for me to tear my car apart to resolve the issue they caused. I'm capable, but don't feel I should have to fuck with it.
I told them in the email that I'd like the repairs (card removal) done at a authorized honda dealer at their expense. Then it can be documented too.
I also filed an online police report for vehicle damages/vandalism. Seems petty, but if this did end up being a big deal, I want a police report for the damages.
2nd time I've had this happen, some flyer or card falls down inside the door. (different vehicle last time)
I'm normally not this petty of a person, but it pissed me off this time.
we'll see what happens.
not much of a /rant. Just kinda pisses me off when people stick stuff all over your car. I've also had this happen where they stick items in the door handle and you can't get it to function unless you remove the "flyer" or business card. Always fun if you have your hands a bit full carrying groceries or whatever. Set the shit down, grab the garbage out of the handle and continue on.
It also annoys the fuck out of me that they stick this stuff to the cars in handicap zones. (which mine was) Some guy in a chair or whatever wouldn't be able to reach the windshield/wipers to remove these types of items and it just flops around on the windshield for miles obstructing/distracting the view.
Agreed Hbar The side window and back glass on my topper had the grime cleaned from a small section so someone could peer in two nights ago. Luckly I had pulled my tools out that night. Fuckers

Post the info from the card. I'm sure lots of us on the site would like a reputable shop to frequently call for advice and with questions about proper tire pressure, recommendations on windshield wiper fluid, etc.

I agree with Hbar in regards to not touching other people's property, that goes for business cards, flyers, in passing, with shopping cart, etc. That being said, I don't stroke out if someone puts a flyer or business card on my car, and feel it's a bit ridiculous filing a police report over it.

Maybe you should leave something on their windshield.

This. I was going to post something much more sarcastic, don't you have anything more serious to worry about?
Never got the flyers on windshields businesses. For me, it's a guaranteed "never do business with these people" moment.
Please post contact info. This could be fun.

+1, filing a Police report may not be the best use of the police department's time. If you call RTD and you were parked in a RTD run lot they will likely take action. The property is not available to companies who put flyers on cars, they strictly forbid it. I've called and asked and the answer was no. In our case we only put something on a car when the lot allows it and we ask permission before we access any lot. We usually have a signed contract with the lot owner.
They company failed by placing the business card in a way that it would drop in the door. If they are reputable they will listen to your complaint and take appropriate action. If not they are no different than any other 2nd class business.

I'm waiting to see if they respond to the issue before posting the information. But again, it appears this shop has reputation issues already, not sure it would be of any significance.

I've already had a few strokes, what's one more. I wanted a bit of documentation I guess - if the shop/owners make some kind of threat or anything else stupid related to my request to have the card removed. I wanted documentation to go with it ahead of time. Maybe there will be others to complain to PD or RTD. Good to have that documented. ? Not much of a waste of time for PD, it was an online report and it just gets put into the database. I'm not one to waste their time with the small things. Heck, PD might just toss it aside anyways. Much like a graffiti report. (tracking)

Plenty to worry about, and working on my fucking car to remove this damn card before it fucks anything else up - wasn't on my list of shit to worry about. :) But I needed to rant. I tend to have that kind of luck where this type of thing will ruin some expensive window motor or something.

Yep, most likely will post info. Tough to be in business with all the social media. One blip in your business and everyone can hate you until you're out of business. Waiting to see if they respond. Again, online reviews are mediocre of them.

There have been religious folks with flyers and pamplets and tables in the RTD areas before and no action was taken. So I don't really know if they care? There have been canvassers and similar types on the trains before too. Not sure where RTD would stand with this.
We'll see what happens. Worst case I guess I'm taking my car door apart. Should be a good time. not.

Once I had someone leave a card in my door and they tore the lower window runner.

Fuck them. Do what you must.
I was wrenching on my truck - in the cold - in my driveway, and some turd walk up the drive and gets in my face trying to sell carpet cleaning. I politely said, "No thank you" and returned to my work. He persisted and I said quite sternly, "I said no thank you."
His response was, "You don't have to be a prick about it and raise your voice with me."
I politely told him, "If I raised my voice, you would know it, now get off my property and stop bothering me. Can't you see I'm busy?"
He stormed off, waving his arms, muttering. I told him next time I will call the Sheriff.
People really are assholes. Apparently I'm one of them.

I've had good luck at the surplus store, usually right next to the grid squares and left handed wrenches.

Same deal with the storm door on the front of my house. Door to door guys stuff flyers in the back of the door on the near side of the house so I don't see it when I come home. Then try to go out the front door later and the door won't open from the paper they shoved in the back of it. Have to go around the garage and pull it out from the front.
Gone are the good old days when some UAW member from Detroit would leave bolts or screws loose and half empty beverage cans inside body panels. Anyone else remember the phrase; Never buy a car made on a Monday or Friday. [LOL]
I also subscribe to the principle that people should not touch things that belong to others unless they ask and receive permission from the owner. I think this makes me a capitalist, private property rights and all that.
I've often wondered how a person can be fined $1,000 for littering on a highway but these "advertisers" can effectively litter in an entire parking lot and government doesn't seem to care.
Same thing with putting stuff on houses. The wind blows and it's all over the neighborhood.
Their name is right on the advertisement so it wouldn't be hard to figure it out who did it.
[snip]
I told him next time I will call the Sheriff.

Call the Sheriff? Why when I have a perfectly good Garand sitting right here.
I don't want to admit this as it will make me seem hotheaded but, I think all those door to door people talk to each other.
Once upon a time... I have a "no soliciting" sticker on my door. Had a ... youth.... come knock on my door trying to sell something. Politely declined. Next day, someone new, politely declined all services. Next day, another one. I asked this one if they could read. Kid answered yes and just stared at me with that blank face. I pointed to the sticker he was obviously trying to NOT look at. I asked him what it said. He said "Well I'm not soliciting. I'm selling something and it's for a good cause!" I shut the door in his face. He ended up keying my car on the way out. I didn't notice at the time, it was dark outside and I had already shut the door. Two days later, ANOTHER ONE. I was in the middle of cleaning my shotgun... I looked through the peephole and saw who (what) it was. Opened the door with my shotgun (unloaded... but it might have been pointing towards the door) pointed to the sign, told him to get lost and slammed the door without them ever getting a word out. Ever since (almost a year) I have not had a single door knocker.... I'm convinced they all talk to each other on what houses to hit up. My neighbor still gets door knockers.
Definitely let RTD know. Placing fliers on cars is strictly forbidden in RTD lots. Curious as to what station you were at? Also as far as the religious pamphlets and canvassers go, they have prior agreements with RTD and have rules they must abide by while working on property. They're also not supposed to be on the trains, so if you see that let RTD know as well.
Don't forget blinker fluid. [LOL]
Yeah, make sure you get the good synthetic stuff.

I hear claims it won't fog your lenses over time like the conventional stuff does.

Update: No response from said business. I didn't have time today and call to inquire. I doubt they will admit fault or do anything, but I'll politely inquire. Maybe tomorrow.
Lakewood PD, they called a bit ago and it is a Denver area, so contact them. Figured it might be so, it's a confusing little part of town, city/county borders on different sides of things that don't seem logical.
I tried to look inside the door/window and can't see much, including the card. I'll most likely have to wait for a warm day and pull the panel to see where it ended up.

As for other solicitors; I don't have anything posted on the doors, obviously it doesn't do any good. They knock anyway. I find it's best to have no doorbell, they have to knock and I usually won't hear that unless they are serious.
This summer I was done with some yard work and was happily drinking a soda behind the house by the garage. Guy went walking down the street and saw me, immediately he came down the driveway and started his pitch for directtv I believe and how much I could save! I told him no, no I'm not interested. He continues. I suggested politely that he leave and he BLEW up and was yelling at me how stupid I must be to not want to save any money! I also told him that he was never invited on my property and he was trespassing. Police would be called shortly. He promptly mumbled a bunch of crap as he stomped off. Directtv dish was just above his head but he couldn't see it from his position. lol
For solicitors or other unknown vistors, I usually open the door with a gun in my other hand in a non-threatening way. I ask what they want, but most just scurry away upon seeing the handgun. I no longer have daily solicitors. Sheriff came by once after one reported and said I was well within my rights when I showed him how I opened the door.
