View Full Version : ?'s on the Dillon RT1200/1500 trimmer
So, my father is in possession of my late uncles reloading equipment and wants to give it all to me. It contains mostly RCBS dies, a JR-3 single stage press, some powder measures and a scale. Don't need the dies as I'm picky about what I use and the only thing I may utilize is the press. I'd like to dedicate it to decapping and rapid trimming. Anyone use a single stage with the RT1200/1500 trimmer in this fashion? I'll be sizing before I trim. I heard the Dillon trim dies are also sizing dies? What would you do? Thanks for reading.
If your trimming to convert calibers you'd want to resize with the trim die. All trim dies resize. You could, with a lot of adjustment, leave the trim die high, get the trim length you want, then full length resize and expand in a separate step. If it's for precision, you'd at least want to use an m die or other expander to set neck tension since the trim dies set a tight neck.

The trim die just body sizes. Run your brass through the trimmer first then go through everything else you do.
This set up would be for plinking ammo. All my precision stuff is done by hand trimming, which would be 100 cases or less. Darn it. I'm really trying to find a reason to use this equipment.

I would have no problem trimming on a single stage. The 5, 650 or 1050 does make it easier for other than small reloading qty.
I'm interested in any items you may not want, if it's something i don't already have.
