I have a B8 S5 that I'm going to be doing the brakes on. I just got the front pads delivered and this bracket was lying loose in the box because it fell off of one of the pads. Anyone know how I can secure it with just some household tools or should I just return them? The other pad is rock solid and that star cut retainer is damn near flat. This one I can easily pull off and that bracket wobbles freely. Obviously it wasn't pressed in nearly as well as the one that appears to be in good shape.

Here is a picture:

Wait, you work on cars?

I would tap that retainer ring a little flatter, then press it on the pad. Maybe use a small socket as a punch around that center to press the retainer down (and in)

Only when I've spent too much money on guns...

That sounds like it might do the trick.

This. Take the plate off, flatten the retainer, and then put it back on using a socket just larger than the post.

You might even be able to just flatten the retainer while it is already over the post using a socket.

It's just a rattle clip. Nothing structural. Not going to be horrific if it isn't stuck right.

Well, that made pretty short work of that. All snugged up now. Thanks guys and gals (00tec being the latter).

I am. My rear pads aren't here yet. Nor my computer to do the EPB release.

Vagcom? havent done an Audi yet (have done rear brakes in a vw Tiguan) was wondering if leaving a battery tender on the battery itself was adaquate, or if you had to apply voltage to another area specifically

Vagcom is preferable, but there's two ways to release the EPB according to youtube.

Mechanically (remove EPB motor)

Electrically (apply voltage to the motor)

For anyone watching, I also have a real Ross-Tech VAG cable setup available for use around Parker. (HEX-COM to use with or without a USB serial dongle.)

This. I've had the car for about 2 years but it is white. It has a spikes billet plate holder.

I bought a Foxwell NT510 for the EPB. Ran me about $150.

Well, if you ever need to do anything using VCDS (VAGcom) there's a few of us around on the board here - and even more if you look around on the quattroworld regional forums.

I also have a pro version of Torque and a BT OBDII dongle.
