View Full Version : Dear White People
One or two of you had to have seen this BS by now...

Who would have seen all those dislikes coming though? [LOL]
Saw it on Crowder's live stream. WTF Netflix?
Is this the one based on the book?
And we're moving on up, to the east side. Deluxe apartment in the sky.

Yup race relations are bad really bad. This is exactly what we need.
I think it looks like quality entertainment. [Sarcasm2]
Oh come on guys, it's just a light-hearted show about race that will increase understanding and bring us all together.

I thought this was a spin off from the MTV ad....
And of course, if you delete your Netflix account, you're just a racist.
No, the commercial looks pretty racist toward white and black people--in addition to very clearly advocating violence toward whites.
Pop-quiz: what societal groups are you NOT allowed to criticize?

Same, the thumbnail and title is about all you need for a somewhat accurate synopsis.
Good thing that chatter about civil war is just 69114

This has nothing to do with that MTV ad. There was a movie called "Dear White People," and this is the show version.
The book I was thinking about is "Stuff White People Like, The Unique Tastes of Millions."

You guys sound like a bunch of snowflakes too. It called parody, makes for good comedy. I guy by the name of Mel Brooks used to do it before everyone got so freakin' sensitive.

Cool.
Never said it was related to the mtv add; just agreeing with the first impression. A book prior to the series doesn't validate anything to me though (not stating it did for you either)

Parodies have a pretty specific stage, this isn't one of 'em, el Barto.

Go ahead and make a "Dear Black People" and see if Netflix picks it up, let alone promotes it. I'm not offended by this but I do get frustrated by double standards.

How come? Many people on here like to comment on how "Blazing Saddles could never be made today! LOLZOMGZ"
This movie probably couldn't have been made when Blazing Sales was either. It's just a sign of current times, and certainly not permanent.
Dear White People... says the character that is bi-racial (the character, not the actress).
Lighten up guys, it's supposed to be a comedy series. Right up to the point that they go off the rails, and turn this into a strictly white-bashing "political" narrative, this has the potential for some clever humor aimed at both sides of the divide.
I have not seen the movie version, but from this trailer, it looks like it could be humorous (the movie version):

It wasn't a come back for anything, serious question. That, or your spell check is broken, or...
Maybe some of us are wound up a little too tight given the current social climate. I'm usually the guy telling folks to lighten up, but I'm personally going through some hardships myself, so yeah...

If it follows the same story/character arc as the movie, buy the end the obnoxious black girl realizes she's as big (if not bigger) a racist as all these white crackers she hates on and condescends to through the production.

I had to do a little background on it myself. At first glance, especially if assumptions are made, it does have the opportunity to get the hackles up. Particularly so, when considering the utoob vid from that wacky "Whyte People" broad in the thread from the other day.

I believe that right up until you see the writer posting fuck white people on Twitter.
No one is required to watch, much less like anything on cable or television.
No such thing as humor that everyone finds funny and if you are never offended by anything, you are either a hermit or living in an echo chamber.
Who was that guy Howard Stern used to call that began all of his messages with "Wake up White People?" If you took the guy seriously, you were missing the point of the joke. At least that was the way I took it.
Before Mel Brooks made movies, Norman Mailer made All in the Family. Archie Bunker was supposed to be a caricature of white bigotry, but Mailer and everyone else at CBS was surprised to find out just how popular Archie's opinions were with most of America.
Treat people the way you want to be treated. So easy to say but so hard for many of us to actually follow.

Among so many other things, race relations in this country are broken. Why? Because far too many people in this country are wrapped around the differences we have based on the color of our skin. When folks stop looking at someone and identifying them by their skin color and start looking at them for their character we can start making up some of the ground lost over the last several years in how various races and even individuals of similar races get along with each other.

I know from personal experience having been at liberal colleges/universities since 2001 that what you said is denying racism and is racist, white privilege, etc. Equality isn't the goal for the Powers That Be in charge of the BLM-type movements, or the NAACP, etc. In their view, from everything I ever heard going to their speeches/seminars (course requirements, extra credit, etc.), Treating people the same regardless of the color of their skin is a NO-NO because whites can never make up for what they did to the blacks throughout history. According to them, blacks are separate and will never be the same as whites as human beings, because history. Along with that comes mandatory legislative differences to ensure "equality", though (yeah, record scratch). In my opinion, it's a perpetuation of victimhood because it's one HELL of a profit tool for those same groups.
And before anyone comes at me with the racist/prejudiced stick (Yeah I already know who it's going to be), I'm just relaying exactly what I heard those groups speak about for the past 15+ years.
eta: and I'm talking about what the leaders say, such as al sharpton, jesse jackson before his son went to jail for being a crook, elijah cummings, cory booker now, etc.

Blazing Saddles did more positive things for race relations than just about anything since.
Of course, wasn't overall racial tension at an all time low before Obama took office, and has gotten worse since?

I wholly agree with what you're saying as too many people are shackled by their need to maintain their victimhood and too many others will lose their incomes if we quit looking at ones race versus their character. Yet, I hold onto the hope that these famous words by the nations greatest civil rights activist will one day be true:
I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.

Dr. King's dream is dead because frankly most blacks want it dead ... there's no profit for them in being judged by their own character when they can blame their failures on whitey.
The most desired human emotion is "righteous anger". "White privilege/White Supremacist" theory allows blacks to marinate in this "righteous anger" even if its built on a lie and they'll choose that dishonest good feeling over the hard truth every time (and pretty much any group would do the same thing so this isn't an indictment of blacks as being particularly venal ... the temptation to take the easy way of victimology is very strong for all people).

This seems more Mel Brooks' level:

We had a Jamaican guy from Queens, NY in my platoon at Stewart; 11B assigned to the Scouts, later was selected for the sniper team we had attached to us. Great guy. His nickname was "bumboclaat". A typical exchange would go something like:
Jamaican: Hey you cracker ass faggots, my wife is cooking jerked pork this weekend, you wanna come over?
Us: Hell yeah. Should we bring watermelon too?
Jamaican: Only if you want my cousin to love you.
Us: The pretty one?
I wonder why we all, including him, were able to get away with it. The only answer I can come up with is that at the end of the day it was a tight platoon. Lives were on the line and ultimately we all suffered together. That's what bonds people, even from disparate backgrounds. America has no real conjoined suffering. There is no compassion (literally, to suffer with). I don't believe that is accidental, but part of a social construct to further solidify the socioeconomic policies segregation encouraged by liberal programs. These incentivize the continuation of a poverty cycle, and where poverty cannot be blamed, manufactured problems arise. The black community, at least the portion thrust in front of our faces by the left, has not suffered with their fellow citizens by a liberal design. One cannot provide a solution to a chaos they created, if the chaos is not able to take hold. The fastest solution to race relations is quite simply for the narrative to be ripped from the liberals' hands and to allow a true suffering of life together. A fraternal bond cannot be forged in a cold furnace.
Dr. Walter E. Williams touches on that here:
