View Full Version : I Got Some Good Medical News the Other Day... It's NOT Cancer!

I posted this to fb the other day but after posting about my pulmonary embolism scare here I thought some may want to know what else was going on in addition to that little episode.

Many of you know that a few months ago I ended up with a couple of pulmonary embolisms in my left lung. While it was a bit of a surprise & life threatening I bounced back pretty quickly & haven't really looked back.

What most don't know is that we had another scare while in the ER for that. My scans revealed a 1.4cm mass in the area of my lower right lung/liver. At that moment in time we were dealing with the immediate threat to my life so the decision was to give this other situation a few months & then do another chest scan to see what the nodule was doing.

Thursday was that day & I'm relieved to report that the results were that I don't have cancer which was some of the best news I've got in a while.

Thanks to everyone reading this for being a friend even though you probably didn't know what was going on. Your friendship is something I cherish even if I'm not very good at expressing that sentiment.

"The clock is running. Make the most of today. Time waits for no man. Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift. That's why it is called the present."

I've been honored to know you and very happy to hear that cancer isn't something that will be cutting our friendship short.

Keep taking care of yourself and know that you've got many friends that care about you and look forward to the next time we meet.

No doubt. We spent a few months wondering if the blood clots in my lungs were just one of those weird ways of saving my life you hear about from time to time. You know the ones; guy gets in a car accident, hits his head and a scan reveals a tumor which would have otherwise killed him. It sure felt that way but glad it seems like it was nothing.

Thanks buddy! It seems as though it's going to take something more serious than tiny items to take me out. [LOL]

Good job, I knew you could do it!

Haha... do what? All I did was stand still and hold my breath for a second. [LOL]

Damn, dude, I had no clue. Glad to hear you're doing better!

I am for sure man. I feel great in fact. Never better!

Nice! Congrats. I'll celebrate your good news with a shot of Buffalo Trace later. Cheers!

Excellent choice. [Beer]

So you're saying crossfit?

Congrats

Bwahaha! Have you heard of The Book of Crossfit and our Lord & Savior Dave Castro? [ROFL1]

Awesome news !!!!!

Indeed. I get to live a little while longer! [Beer]

...but having cancer is not always the end of the world. It's often much more survivable than it was just 10-20 years ago.

But I'm still happy to hear that Jer doesn't have to deal with it.[Beer]

So...it's later, and Jer is okay...does it get any better than this"??? Time to lift a dram of Buffalo Trace to Jer!

Jer, see what we did there?

Seriously though, we had a bit of a "C word scare" a few years ago, and people that haven't been there, can't relate completely. Congratulations on the good news. Nothing is a given, grab hold of what you have, and hang on.

Yes, very good news. Cancer sucks. Too many loved ones have dealt with it, my wife, father, grandmother, aunts. Now a good friend in Glenwood started radiation last Thursday for an aggressive form of prostate cancer. He's thinking of cutting out his you-know-whats to reduce the risk, but he'll still have to do radiation. He wants to avoid chemo of course. Praying it works for him. He's a pretty notable and notorious character in the Glenwood area, aka Doc Holliday.

Jer, I hope we can meet and go shooting some time this summer..... Take good care of yourself. Our time here is too short as it is. Most of us run out of life before we run out of money, women and booze.

While I realize this I certainly am glad I don't have to deal with it. Especially having gone through this with my mom who passed away almost two years ago.
