I had Tuff Shed quote me a 12'x20' Pro Barn today. Anyone who is licensed want to give me a quote? I'm in Littleton, thank you.

Not sure what it costs to buy one but you could build one in a weekend depending on what you want

Building one is cheaper and sturdier.

FYI there is no real license for this kind of work in colorado. It's just a business license to be a general contractor. Look for insurance.

Yeah, my brother and I were looking at tough sheds this weekend (he's in the market), after checking a few out, I mentioned to him how easy it would be to build one ourselves.

Thanks guy's. I'll look into that as well, maybe one of the kits since my framing skills are non-existent.

A few YouTube videos and tools and your all set. Get a chop saw and a framing nail gun then have at it

Tuff Shed quoted me $8,500 for a 12'x20' Pro Barn, installed with tax and a permit. I can do a Home Depot kit for about half that, plus beer.

Go look the Tuff Sheds over real close, and take a bunch of photos inside with your phone for ideas how to build one. A TS came with our house and I use it a lot, but there really isn't much to them.

I just built one. I bought a set of plans with a cut list. If I remember right materials were about 2500 from Home Depot. I'll take some pics here in a bit. If you want I can pm you the plans. If you take the list into Home Depot and have them put it in the bid room you can save at least 10% on materials.

Go all Huck Finn and cast it as a learning opportunity for anyone thinking of doing a similar project -- they get to learn from your mistakes. Meals and beer provided.

This will be the cheapest way even with the kits available. Buy the porter cable pancake compressor nail gun set and a halfway decent chop saw and a skill saw.

Or rent them from me. *compound miter saw and compressor.

There were some gas powered pass-lode tools in the trade section. No hoses or compressors. (Sorry Irving) [emoji477]

This is what I have been doing. Needed a porch, so bought a saw. Needed a fence so bought a nailer (then bought another one, the correct one). When I build the shed, I havent decided whether or not I will buy a concrete mixer.

I need to build a few sheds, but will keep them under 120 sq ft (to avoid permit). Havent decided if I will buy plans or just wing it.

Or go to Lowe's and flip thru the 20$ shed book.

I build the cost of tools into the job and very rarely rent anything that isn't very specific to something I don't do much.

I'm a big fan of 8×12 or 8×16 sheds with a 4/12 pitch. I can bang them out in one day since there's so little cutting.

My FIL builds sheds. He just built a bad ass mini garage in his backyard. He is local in littleton too, let me know if you want his contact info.

We looked at Tuff Shed, plus big box kit options, and ended up going with Ted's Shed (https://www.tedsshedscolorado.com). Local company, better quality, better price. Got 10x12 because that's the largest allowed without a building permit in this county.

Thanks for chiming in with it that, as I'm in the market too and skeptical of the big box store options. Did your Ted's Shed include a paint job with the price? I am not seeing a mention of that on their website.

EDIT:
Never mind, I see the page where they say it's an option for 10% of the base price.

Jeebus. I need to quit the general contractor thing and just build sheds.

Check out metal carports with sides. Lots of options.

A few things to be aware of. In Littleton over 120sf "does" require a permit with plans. It also will go through zoning to check on setbacks and structures(sf) to lot size limits. You can pull the permit, without being licensed, but if you sub out part/all work they are supposed to be licensed.
Be careful with that lot size vs max structures square foot allowance.

I put some horse fencing up using power poles buried four feet with concrete poured around them. My next shed/barn is going to be built the same way. I already built a 8'X10" shed from scrap plywood shelves I savaged from a huge dumpster.

This is the next building...

I'm pretty sure it's 200sqft. I checked and build mine at 198 sqft for that reason.

Might be worth an anonymous phone call, Rebecca, code inforcer, can be a bull dog. Littleton's Web site says 120 but maybe hasn't been updated for a while

Years ago (20) I bought a kit instead of Tuff shed. Saved a bunch and it was a great kit. When I needed a garage I had quotes all the way up to $27K for a 20'X28' garage. Also had so many contractors that did NOT know county code. I was told so many crazy things that I found one person in zoning and one in code and they were great in helping me. In the end I had Tuff shed build it but it was not without issues. Just like many they said one thing and I called BS. In the end I got what I wanted where I wanted at a price I could live with but it took me being very informed to do it.

FYI for Broomfield residents who want a shed: Starting April 1st of this year, you will no longer need a permit for sheds 120 sq ft and under. (Unless they're April fooling us.)
