So I recently got a Mossberg US 44 (a) .22 LR and I've looked up some info on it. It's got the original leather sling, S-100 Microclicks peep hole sight, and is in pretty good condition, but could use some cleaning up on the barrel. From what I understand, this rifle was likely made between 1942-1944, and was a military training rifle? It seems like a good shooter, and coincidently, every thing I've found about it so far says that it's pretty accurate (they say that about most rifles though ;) ).

Anyway, does anyone have any more information, or perhaps a link to some where that might have it? Perhaps something like the modern firearms sight (http://world.guns.ru/main-e.htm) but for older rifles?

Thanks.

I got good responses from another site and learned a lot of information about this rifle. It is for sure the (a) model. I took it all apart last night and gave it a fairly thourough cleaning. I'm really happy with how it cam out. Unfortunately the leather sling was so old that it got dry and snapped :(

Any advice on products I can use to keep the wood stock looking nice?

Mind if I ask how much?

If you feel like going shooting again, LMK.

I just use BLO on all my mil type wood stocks. Light thin coats untill it stops soaking in. Usually buff with 0000 steal wool between coats.

I had a cell phone picture, but it was blurry. I may get around to snapping some pictures with a real camera, but if you can't wait, here is an auction on Gunbroker of the same rifle that looks to be in the same condition.

The only difference on mine is that the hood on the front sight is missing, and the whole front sight was poorly installed so even after fixing it to how it's supposed to be, it sits crooked. Also, that was a poorly worded, run-on sentence. ;)
