View Full Version : I think I'm being trolled...

Cleaning out the garage in the new-to-us home in the Columbine area. Previous owner had put some old (as in, old, small and crappy) kitchen cabinets in the garage. Since they would be in the way of my cabinets and workbench, I took them off the wall. Then, rather than busting them up for scrap, I decided to list them for "free" on CL.
I actually got rid of them the first day (I was thinking "nobody in their right mind would want these shitty cabinets" and I think I was right, but I hadn't factored in the fact that there are lots of people on CL who are apparently NOT of their right mind. Anyway, I had people texting me frantically to get them and they're gone. But I made the mistake of not taking the ad down. So today I get this:
Hello....my wife and I have been trying to fix this mobile home up to get our son home we don't own a truck to get it. Can you deliver it all to Byers ....

I was tempted to email back "Sure, want me to install them for you too?" [facepalm]
Not sure what's up with people these days. I got trolled last week from an Armslist ad trying to sell a guy. Guy seemed real, responded like a normal person. Day of the meet up, I'm heading to the FFL and get a text saying he's running behind and will be 15 mins late. Then suddenly no more texts and never showed. Not sure what his end game was; have me sit at the FFL for 30-45 mins? He site showed me...

If not trolling, completely unreasonable. For me, that is an open invitation to return the favor. "No problem, just need an address. Is tomorrow at 5am ok?" then block the number.

We've been giving away a lot of stuff we don't need, most of it of little value, but it has astonished me the number of people who will say "can you deliver?"
I mean, I guess if you don't ask you'll never know. Who knows, there may be some kind, gentle heart out there who will not only give away an old couch or mattress but also deliver it, on his own time and using his own gas.

Someone was asking for donations - lady trying to get back on her feet, had a job etc, just needed some household items... chairs, couches, tables.
This was being asked by someone in the neighborhood who was legit.
I responded and was able to deliver some items. I got rid of these items from my home, spent some gas and time, but would have done that anyway taking them to goodwill or ARC.
As for craigslist folks, I'd not deliver usually. I did deliver an old TV for a guy who wanted it. Nobody else would take the huge 25 inch sony glass tv. It probably ended up in some dumpster anyway after he busted it up for copper scrap.

I generally offer free stuff on craigs as "it will be on the curb, first come, no holds. When it is gone, the ad will be deleted" then ignore the email. No mental anguish, and it is gone pretty quick.

I have a guy on armslist...wanted my number to talk, told him send me yours and I will call you. Sent me an email how he is in this area all the time and could meet up for the sale etc..but didn't send me his number. He hit me up again yesterday so I got me a Google voice number and sent that to him. Guess what he didn't call!
We give away a lot of old stuff. Small goes to Goodwill. Big stuff goes to a spot on the road with reasonable traffic, with a FREE sign. I've dropped off a couch, tables, chairs, old skis and much more. Never seen anything sit for more than a day. No interaction with people I don't know and somehow it finds a good home. Nobody I don't know EVER comes to our place for a transaction.
I considered getting a simple burner phone from walmart loaded with a few minutes and Text just for selling things. I gave my number out once and ended up getting solicited calls from 2 different companies.
Welcome to Craigslist.

"Got a trash can of Styrofoam peanuts, you can have 'em for free
You can drop by on the weekend and pick 'em up from me
But the trash can ain't part of the deal
Only givin' you the peanuts, get real
Don't have no Hefty bags, so bring your own
Don't bug me with questions on the phone
Don't ask for help, don't waste my time
And don't complain, cause they won't cost you a dime
Just ask yourself
Do you want my Styrofoam peanuts?
You can have my Styrofoam peanuts
Do you want my Styrofoam peanuts?
You can have 'em all"
If you're not familiar with this song, yes, that is the late Ray Manzarek of The Doors on keyboard.

That happened to me a few years ago. Guy said he was running 15 minutes late (it had begun snowing, so I understand that) and then disappeared from the face of the Earth. I hung out at Rapid Fire Bunker for over an hour waiting for him.
So many flake fks on cl and armslist, 75% of inquiries are full of jokers.
I had one idiot who emailed me today for racquetball racquet. It was same bitc-@ss idiot who flake-fked on a deal last month.
If you were really being trolled, they'd ask you to meet them under a bridge.
The Weird Al video was awesome. I shared it with a friend, thanks.

[ROFL1][ROFL2][LOL] That's awesome! Thanks for posting, I hadn't seen it before.
You're welcome. I have these little bits of video, films, TV, etc. that run around in my head whenever I hear about certain topics.
I saw him perform the song in concert several years ago...and he was acting like Jim Morrison...completely inebriated and barely able to stand at the mike. The guy is really smart and quite talented, and so is his band.

I tried the "let go" app. What a pain in the ass. I price something very reasonable and all I ever get is will you take this amount... or can you meet me an hour from where you are for a $15 dollar item. How does one even sell used shit these days?
I just throw everything away when I no longer have a use for it. That's why landfills exist.
I either find family or friends that want it, or it gets donated to ARC/Salvation Army.

His parole officer caught up with him before he could meet you?
I get trolled a lot selling vintage stereo gear.
Some people just seem to want to get it all for nothing. Even when you do comms with them, they flake out.
Since they always have to come to me, I usually lose them when I require a phone call to have a real human conversation prior to giving out my address.
