Burris XTR II 4-20x-50

Seriously thinking about purchasing one of these as they seem to be one of the only scopes with FFP in this price range with a host of higher end features. Planning to use it for mid range 600yd+ target and perhaps some Pronghorn hunting. Intended rifle will be LR 308 chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor single shot, side charge upper. What are your thoughts and potential alternatives to Burris? Anyone nearby (Smoky Hill Rd and E-470) for me to get behind one? SCR-MIL reticule is what I'm interested in.

I do not have one in SCR yet. However I have a few of the 4-20s. I am not sure I would not push towards the 3-15 in an XTRII or ever a Veracity for hunting, but the SCR is a better reticle for target. I have a 2-10 XTRII on my hunting .243Win and I shot a Pronghorn at 400 and Coyotes out to 760 yards without any issue at all.

If your budget is around that $1K mark, I don't think you can beat the XTRII. If you push your budget up over $1500, you can certainly get a little better glass, but in most lines you are at 5-25/6-24 or in the 3-15 range.

I will likely be going to CRC to practice next week (whatever day seems the best weatherwise) and will have a few of them with me.

I have the 3-15 model in the SCR reticle and it's a great scope. Personally between that and the the Steiner T5 series I can't imagine why you would spend the extra money on the Steiner. The price difference doesn't seem to make up for the slight advantages the Steiner has. I thought the glass on the two were fairly comparable. I've since moved on from the Steiner but still have the Burris on my 308 gas gun.

I have that exact scope on a 6.5 Creedmoor Savage, but I've only been able to find time to do a load workup. It was the right scope at the right price for me.

I have the 4-20 but not the SCR. it was on a 6.5 that was on the money out to 1200 .

I remember you having an XTR and some German stuff, too. I'm open to the other reticles Burris offers, but the SCR interested me more.

I have been using the XTRII SCR line for 2 years now. The SCR reticle is hard to beat for any rifle. If you can beat them up pretty good and they will keep working. I believe the 4x20 would fit your needs.

Just looked through the 4-20 SCR reticle and I like it a lot. Played around with the parallax settings on 20x and it worked very well. Turrets had a noticeable click and tactile feel. Everything felt nice and tight and being a machinist, fit and finish of a product means plenty. I had the luxury of comparing the XTR side by side with a Steiner T5Xi and to my untrained eye, the clarity at 20x was the same. That Steiner was a hammer its so beefy! For a first time LR optic, I think the XTR II is the one for me and glad I can support a local company.
