I just refer to anything like that as "an old wooden rifle".

I think you're right. Looking a little deeper, the serial number indicates a 1916 manufacture date. At least according to this website.

EDIT: You have to scroll to the bottom for the dates.

Swiss, "straight pull". Usually quite accurate.

I have a K31, the only time I have shot it I was able to hit gongs out to 500 yards with the iron sights with ease. Very nice shooting rifles.

They are an underrated rifle to those who are not familiar with them. We had one back east, that rifle didn't miss anything you aimed at. Matching #'s oh yeah [Love1]

Pretty sure mine is all matching numbers, even the magazine.

I don't know about now but when I got mine they were only $150-$200 depending on condition.

Ammo used to be petty cheap too.

That's not a K31. Its a Schmidt Rubin 1896/11 rifle. Its in 7.5x55mm and is the predecessor of the K31. The K31 is easily spotted from having a magazine adjacent to the trigger guard, that rifle's magazine is forward of the trigger guard by several inches. Also that rifle has a wooden knob on the bolt handle, the K31 bolt handle is aluminum.

Military surplus ammo is not as cheap as it used to be but remains probably the most accurate military issue ammunition you will find.
