View Full Version : Application Deadline Approaching
Seems like there were some that had this sneek up on them last year. Just a friendly reminder there's just a little over 3 weeks until the deadline. Good luck

Good reminder. For some reason we always procrastinate and do it last minute and ever year we say we won't do that again....we will see what happens this year [facepalm]

Damn it, I forgot again.
Deadline is April 4th.
$933 unless I missed something. Sigh. :)

$974 for me but I went ahead and bought my small game combo too.
Aah good point, I bought that separate so I think your number is right.
What on earth are you guys buying that's that much?
Sandhill Crane and Bald Eagle.
I thought maybe DOW had opened up Hippie season. Can't stink worse than speed goat...

Points. I'm not sure when/if I'll ever go after a sheep, goat, moose, or whatever were the $200+ options, but I think it's worth it just in case. As long as you don't mind loaning the DOW your money for a couple months, most of it comes back as a refund check.
I might open the application pamphlet tomorrow. I usually wait until the last minute to lend them my money.
I always put in for my wife and I for every species so the credit card bill is always bumped this month! But the refund checks roll in and I save them up and it's almost like a sweet little tax refund since I pay the cards off every month.
And with the cash back rewards the application fees are almost wiped out so not really too big of a deal.
When it will get interesting is when both my boys are eligible to apply for and I have 4x $974.
I applied for everything this year so who knows, maybe I'll have a shot at Bighorn, Goat or Moose.
I completed applications today for buck deer, cow elk, buck pronghorn and bull moose. In July, I'll add bull elk and bear. A change for me is that I might be hunting deer and moose from my back yard, and deer in a different area and season from elk. But even with 3 preference points and 14 weighted points for moose, the chance of drawing a tag is still pretty slim. There are a many hunters out there waiting with 14, 15, and 16 weighted points. CPW has developed a draw formula that lets a lot of licenses go to hunters with few or no weighted points.
A nice bonus this year was the $1 senior fishing license, and not having to buy a habitat stamp, one of the few advantages to reaching codgerhood.

Bastards are smart, I put in for the same area this year.

Any advice for a bewildered novice? I understand using the mapping tool at CPW website. But it seems that without years of experience or private-land contacts, a dartboard would be my best bet.

For what.. deer? elk?
Both deer, and elk. Never know my work schedule this far in advance, so planning to submit for both and just see what happens come fall.
Wouldnt be opposed to front range white tails, but that seems unlikely without private land access.
Would think an area w/ a lot more public and Mule would be better choice.
Put in for cow elk, buck deer, buck pronghorn, and points for moose and bear. I'll pick up OTC bear and fall turkey probably as well.

I knew I wasn't the only one that will literally hunt everything I can. Glad to see others do as well. I often talk to others about hunting and they always act surprise that I hunt nearly all the big game species, small game, and waterfowl. [Beer]

I would make sure you at least put in for preference points for anything you think you may want to hunt in the future. Other than that, use the spring/summer to go camping and scout the areas you want to try out, it takes a lot of time to find a good spot.

Put in for everything for my grandson and myself. Hopefully he'll draw one or more of the big 3 before I am too old to hunt with him....
Why can't the division get it together so I can apply for all my tags and buy my small game license all at the same time? They limit you to nine items at one time so I always have to go back in and buy my small game separate after I've applied for all of my big game apps. Either way, $974.00 in applications added to the credit card. Hopefully some of that comes back in the form of a license instead of a refund check.
I'm really looking forward to getting an antelope, coyote, turkey, and bear this year. Assuming of course I also draw for elk and deer.

Last day. I did mine yesterday...dont like giving up all my money until i have to! I wasnt able to hunt in 2016 so hoping im rewarded in 2017. First time i didnt hunt in almost 20 years...talk about a depressing year
Just got my son in for Deer, Elk, and Pronghorn; I need to get mine done.
Did Deer (applied for Archery and Rifle2/3). Hoping I get Deer Archery so I'm not limited to bucks. No elk this year as I will have limited hunting days. I'll probably walk through a herd of em and never see a deer.
I'm already getting inpatient. Do we find out in May or June?
Depends on which animal. Deer/elk should be June. Only a few are before that. You can find the specific dates online.
