LCD TV with black circles on the screen - toast?

The kids must have whacked the screen because there are a half a dozen inch or so diameter black circles on the screen. We replaced the TV already, but can the damaged one be repaired or is it toast? If we could get it fixed for a reasonable price, it would be put to use elsewhere.

Run a search with the brand, model, and problem. If you get hits it may be a common problem that is an easy fix, or it may be a common problem that means you just throw it away. Either way it's worth it to check.
