Anyone know a good trainer familiar with training pointers? I'm having trouble contacting our old trainer and not finding much searching Google.

I actually ended up going with someone else. But mainly because it was closer. I'd recommend Ben Garcia.

Also Kiowa Creek Kennels. They are GREAT people. They are on the Kiowa-Bennett Hwy and I don't think they have a website. I can get you their number if you'd like.

Ben's wins at competition shows that he is just not some guy who can train a dog, but a true trainer. That said some of his methods are better suited for working dogs versus pets and some may not like his methods, but they do get results.

Yeah. That's kinda the impression we got as well. Gary at Kiowa Creek is a bit softer I'd say. Our dogs sleep in our bed when I'm gone and they are most certainly pets before working dogs. That's part of the reason we went with Kiowa Creek. But I'm not taking away anything away from Ben. It was a hard decision. Kiowa Creek is about 15 minutes from me. So that was a big part of our decision.

Another guy that does a lot of bird dog training is Dan at Hightail Setters Gun Dogs. He's located just south of Elizabeth.

Thanks for the input. We've been working with Gary for the last 20 years and we really like his methodology. He's very soft on the dogs and the results have been great. He's the one I haven't been able to get in touch with but I finally heard back from him today.

Our new dog is very eager to please and kind of a drama queen. I'm not sure hard handed techniques would work with with this breed. :)

I had heard of Dan but couldn't find anything more recent than about 2010 so I wasn't sure if he was still doing training.
