Ouch! Are you in the evacuation zone? I heard on the radio 1000 residences were evaced. Damn scary, stay safe! As much as I love this weather we need moisture bad.

-not yet, but the photo is from my driveway so I'm not all that far from it.

Good luck and stay alert.

I can't believe it's March and we're in Stage 1 fire restriction in Gilpin. Unless biblical rain/snow comes in April and May it's going to be a hairy summer.

Any word on the cause yet?

Not surprising with how dry it's been.

Stay safe.

-many people are making suppositions based on location of initial sightings but I've not heard anything definitive yet. Many reports that it was already seen going on around 1:30-2am this morning.

The air portion of containment has slowed considerably in the past hour so it might be largely over now.

Sunshine Fire 20 percent contained (http://www.9news.com/news/local/wildfires/homes-evacuated-due-to-wildfire/423727500)

Suggestions are that shooters started the fire. [Bang]

At least it appears that the fire is contained to the undergrowth and not a crown fire. The area will probably be nice and lush once we do get some moisture.

I'm only seeing helicopters dropping water they scoop out of Wonderland Lake at this point, the plane in the original photo posted above seems to have called it a day....or are taking a multi-hour lunch break.

Talked to someone who saw it raging at 2:00am. Boulder Canyon has been closed since this morning but heavy traffic on side canyons. No word as to cause. I doubt there is much "legal" shooting up there. I heard 1000 people have been evacuated. True?

It's going to be a long summer.

Curious, how much (weight/volume/gallons) of that fire retardant can one of those planes drop?

I'd sooner believe that buddha stubbed his toe and sparks flew but that might merely be an overfamiliarity with boulder.

Here is a great resource to show almost everything

https://gacc.nifc.gov/swcc/dc/azpdc/operations/documents/aircraft/links/Aircraft%20Recognition%20Guide.pdf

The Single Engine Air Tanker (SEAT) can hold 800 gallons
The Medium Tanker can hold at least 1200 gallons

As a note here are the resources that where ordered this morning:
Metro Strike Teams and Units Assigned to Boulder
Denver - D06, E14, E21, E07, E28, E03
Southeast - Aurora C7, E13, Cunningham E61, Littleton E15, SMFR BR39 & E47
West - Arvada E58, WMFR BR9, Fairmount E34, Pleasant View E41, Golden E25
North - Thornton BC72, E75, NMFR E63, Brighton E55, ACFR E14, Westminster E2
West JeffCo - Indian Hills BR357, Inter Canyon BR651, BR652, Evergreen BR157, E137

That is 19 Type I Engines for Structure Protection
A handful of Type VI Engines to go off road
A couple of Chiefs

Air Resources
1 Single Engine Air Tanker
1 Medium Tanker
2 UH60's
2 CH47's
1 Lead Aircraft
The State Multi Mission Aircraft (MMA) (https://www.colorado.gov/pacific/dfpc/multi-mission-aircraft-mma) which is a huge benefit

All that in addition to the local Boulder County resrouces already on scene early this morning

Officer on tv just said they are pretty sure it was man caused but this was following discussions that the area is known for homeless camps...no mention of shooters. Channel 7 news.

Sunshine is labeled as a wildlife preserve with no shooting signs all over the place

Fire ban = shooting ban for all of Boulder County west of Broadway, no exceptions; that was declared on Wednesday. Regardless, where the fire was (Settlers Park area) it is highly unlikely anyone was shooting at anytime of year.

I was monitoring the scanner much of the day because we are close enough to pay attention but north and west enough to not be under evacuation. The sheriff responded to two reports of high volume of gunfire "possibly fully automatic", one around Gold Hill and another off the Peak to Peak around Bunce School Road. Dispatcher made a point of saying the "education period" is over, which means a $500 fine if caught instead of a warning. I'd like to see 10X higher fines during fire bans.

They hit this one hard and fast, which is the way it should be near any city. Despite the great response, this was only 60+ acres mostly because the weather cooperated and the winds never really kicked up. Odds are good it was caused by a participant in the Homeless Industrial Complex.

If only the outrage were the same over the homeless camps starting fires like this as it is over shooters starting fires like this.

I didn't know there were RJ-45's outfitted for firefighting.

Well what do you expect. The people in Boulder take care of and feed the homeless like ducks at a park.

Frankly...I half expect the liberal media to lie and say it was evil shooters with machine guns loaded with tracers.

That particular aircraft is a BAE146, its capacity is around 3000 gallons depending on altitude.

Boulder city should pick up the cost since they encourage the behavior.

They most likely will unless they find someone to blame for this.

Run by Neptune Aviation..

I was downtown on top of a parking ramp watching them, pretty cool watching these jets do their runs.

Going to be a really long and dangerous summer if this weather keeps up and and they don't do anything about the hippies squatting in the hills.
