I was born in Ft Collins the night of the Big Thompson flood in 76'. We had to leave the hospital a few hours after I was born to make room for the victims. My family moved to the east coast shortly after I was born. I've been drawn to the area ever since.
Moving this summer to the Ft Collins/ Longmont area. I'll be working in the Ft Collins area and I'm looking for a good place to settle down. The gun laws in MD are soooo bad, looking forward to getting some of my freedoms back. I'm an active member of MDshooters and look forward to getting to know this community.
Welcome to the forum and the better gun laws, not as good as they used to be but better than MD!

Just made the reverse move. Left CO for Rockville, MD to follow an 18 month work contract, Counting down the days till I get back to freedom!
Born and raised in Baltimore. Been in Colorado for 14 years. Colorado has less traffic, better weather, and crazy house prices. Love to visit the old haunts but can't ever live there again.
Welcome.

Settle down as in a place to live, or settle down as can't wait to get back?

Welcome.

Place to live. Plan to rent for a year before we buy to make sure we love the location. I have a young family... schools and crime are my concern. I'll be working full time + finishing off my bachelors degree both in ft Collins would love to keep the commute under 30 miles.

That's not too great a distance to commute, depending where you're driving from. Figure rent will run $1500+ mth (no pets) and much higher depending what your requirements are. There's wellington, waverly, windsor, severance, Johnstown, Milliken Loveland, berthoud & mead
Schools... well it's going to be semi difficult finding a school that isn't teaching some form of liberal ideology. UNLESS you look in to the Windsor Charter School
Or one of the Larimer Cty ones

I've liked Bob Schaffer since his political days.
As for crime, it's everywhere in some shape or form, not like large east coast urban areas. I will say as others (if they chime in) Ft Collins is the (IMO) 3rd largest liberal, or soon to be city along the ft range. They're more concerned about the rights of homeless druggies and climate change, than anything else. Then there's their push for carbon credits and taxes to pay for them

The soon to happen local election and the opinion sections comments should give you an idea what's going on and where the people want them to take it.

Longmont's not too far behind them, or is it a 30 minute commute. Honestly nothing is really a 30 min commute, during to & from work hours anymore.
Still a major improvement lifestyle and freedom wise over MD.

Welcome back even though I'm late on this one. Hit me up sometime when you get back to the fort. I was born and raised here too, and kazoo it being generous on those figures lol
