Looks like the law will go into effect on or about my birthday (August 9th) ... so I'll be buying a switchblade for my birthday now :D

Yes need to go find my fighting knife!
Suddenly, many blades will be raised from the fictitious Davy Jones' locker... It'll be a miracle of maritime proportions.

What about the chil'ren?
Well they tend to have less manual dexterity so this is only a benefit to them ... now they can get their knives into action much faster and easier.

Well that's nice. Does it take effect immediately, or is it like the mag ban that set in a few months later?

Im supprised this passed with out almost any opposition. Im in need of a new knife if I can find a nice auto that isint big $$$ I will probly go with it. If not another spyderco it is.
Given how nice my crkt and many other thumb driven adjusted open are, not sure what the appeal of an auto knife is other than the novelty of it.
Yeah, auto knives and switchblades are once again legal in Colorado. Progress, baby steps but still, progress.

this article says not legal until august...

Now on to constitutional carry, repeal of the BGC and mag limits
You guys can thank me for this. A few months ago a buddy and I put on ski masks and open carried some auto loaders right into the Governor's office to demand a change in the law. Looks like it worked!
Also, I have a stiletto that looks exactly like the one HBAR posted and the only thing I like about it is the auto open feature. It's just fun to deploy, but otherwise useless as an actual knife.
What about the chil'ren?
They can ask for switchblades for Christmas.

There's gonna be blood in the streets.....people will be stabbing each other over parking spots.....[panic]
Are my butterflies free?
Looks like they will be legal to me but someone with more knowledge can respond. I believe they were considered 'gravity knives' which were removed from the law.
(e) "Gravity knife" means any knife that has a blade released from
the handle or sheath thereof by the force of gravity or the application of
centrifugal force.
Sweet. Now I can carry this.

All I want for Christmas is a switchblade knife
A switchblade knife
I have a ZT auto and I was comparing the draw to my Emerson CQC-8, the Emerson is faster for me.
All I want for Christmas is a switchblade knife
A switchblade knife
So it reads like we're allowed to have them as long as the blade is no longer than 3.5". I'm surprised they didn't allow them to only be 1/8".
The one I have my eye on has a 2.87" blade.
Just not sure how I'm going to get my hands on it. I think federal law prohibits shipping switchblades across state lines unless you're active military or law enforcement. And I am neither.

The way I read it is that blades under 3.5 inches are good to conceal. I'm thinking that for ownership or strapping to your belt, any length is legal. I could be very wrong.

The magazine ban and private citizen background check should be next :-)
The 917 Auto Triage goes for $300.... you could pick up a chainsaw for that price....

Nice...I understand the HK line will be discontinued soon by benchmade, so might need to jump on one of those.
I guess I can now take advance orders on Spyderco Autonomy models, for August delivery...

Can you get me the HK one (Benchmade) that I posted about in post #14? Or are you strictly Spyderco?

I'm direct with Spyderco, but I can check on Benchmade Monday to see what their dealer qualifications are.
I'm setting my limit at $350 for a Benchmade or Spyderco. Coming from HI, this is like a candy store.
I have seen them at the fun shows in other states for $40 for a auto knife. If they get used as much as I use my knife I wouldn't want to spend a lot knowing I will break it using it as a screwdriver or some other unforeseen purpose.
Latest Mag Ban repeal ended up in Kill Committee.

Some people get them for free.
ba-dum-bump-tish!
Chainsaws are hard to pocket carry too.
Hmm. Guess I have been breaking an unenforced Colorado law for at least 15 years now. Never even knew carrying anismo auto knife was illegal. Sounds like I broke federal law by shipping one to myself 15 years ago using the PO.
I know a guy that bought one online from a place that didn't card and had it shipped to Colorado, also claiming to not know at the time of some insanely obscure and unenforced "knife" law.
He stopped carrying it when he obtained his CHP, which was the day he realized said knife wasn't legal to carry.
Blowjobs are legal in Colorado right? I'd be sure to inform my wife if they were not.
Bought a microtech combat trodon back in the day for like $450, wasn't dependable at all could get it to malfunction by opening it while moving in and upward motion. Biggest waste of money I ever spent, never used it cause I was afraid to ruin it. Traded/sold it for a lot less than what I paid, it was like buying a new car...
I dig out my stiletto tonight to play with. Pretty fun to open over and over.

Which, if discussing the American Bison, would still be inaccurate because it's a GD BISON, not a Buffalo.

My oldest son, perhaps 2 or 2-1/2 at the time, when I was stationed at Ft. Riley, called them Buppalo.
Can you even image how much that irritated me. LOL

This is correct... Saw that no one commented to confirm, and so here you go.
Some people I saw were upset when this law passed. I cannot fathom why. Maybe it's because he'll lift this ban, but keep us under the magazine ban for longer.
That was a law, huh? I'll be damned. [goFyourself]

They have web sites with the info you're looking for
http://www.knifeup.com/knife-laws/
http://handgunlaw.us/documents/USKnife.pdf
More and more Cities and Counties are putting their ordinances online. The best way to find out the ordinances of any City/Co is to go to Municode and click on your state and see if they city you want to
find info about is listed. If the City or County you want info about is not listed go to Google and type in NAME of City comma STATE and then ORDINANCES. This will most likely bring up a link to the City
or County you are seeking information about. The Info below is just part of their knife laws giving length laws as found in their laws. Municode Link is below.
Never really thought about owning one, but I might now just because. I do have a question about ordering them though. Obviously, I won't really be looking until August, but are there any restrictions on ordering automatic knives or switchblades and having them shipped to your house. I was rummaging around on the internet after this passed and found some differing information. Bladhq has some good looking knives that don't break the bank and I'm just curious to know if ordering online is ok.
Thanks for the info!

I'm in the same boat. Thought I might pick one up just because.
I can't figure out the online retailers. Most specify that they will only ship to military or law enforcement. And it seems there may be some sort of law against shipping them across state lines unless they are going to military or LE persons?
My current plan is to just wait until the new law goes into effect and try to pick something up locally.

Sweet. I'm leaning towards a Benchmade.
My two favorite newly-civilian-legal knives are the Benchmade Triage auto & the Infidel double OTF in either standard or mini-me flavor.
I kind of like the looks of the CLA. Reminds me of my favorite griptilian.

I'm thinking of the factory Buck 110 auto knife. That is if I can find a place that has them in stock.
The "stationed at Fort Riley" part? Yes.
EXACTLY!
I had a distant relative also stationed there at the time and we hung out often, and had some good friends that made it more bearable, but we did not like Kansas. Nonetheless, it was part of life's great adventures and we do have memories from the experience.

Same as always. No longer than 3.5" if you are concealing it.

That's for folding knives.
Is that to say it's different for a OTF auto?
That's for folding knives.
I thought that's for any knife being carried concealed. The exemption to the blade length is if it's being carried for "hunting or fishing".

You're correct. I misread your previous post.
Well, after watching a ton of YouTube videos last night and reading a bunch of stuff on several Internet forums, I think maybe a nice OTF is what I want after all. Seems I like the ability to not only open the knife with the push of a button but I also like the idea of being able to close it with the push of a button as well.
Think I might begin my search for a Microtech Ultratech. The 3.4" blade will make me all nice and legal when I slip it in my pocket.

Got a Boker and a Kershaw. Both function just fine, but the Boker just doesn't have the same quality feel of the Kershaw. The blade holds an edge, but just feels cheap. The Kershaw feels like quality. I do like the pocket clip on the Boker better, works on a wider variety of thin/thick material.

Was in the Sheridan Sportsmans warehouse today, they had SEVERAL autos in the case, nearly as many autos as non autos. They had a Benchmade Casbah that I think will be my first auto.
