View Full Version : Things that follow you home from the range.
Ok. So besides the usual dirt and dust and those stupid "goat's head" things stuck everywhere, it's not uncommon for me to find miscellaneous brass in the bed of the truck or the occasional empty 22 casing on one of the floor mats from being stuck in the tread of a boot.
Today I'm unpacking my stuff after a match and see something on the floor mat on the driver's side. Looks like a fired 40 caliber projectile. Pick it up and sure enough that's what it is.
Not totally unusual I'm sure but seemed odd that something that big could have been stuck in the tread of my boot.

How was match? Range conditions?
Muddy but the weather was nice. I wasn't loving the stage layouts and was distraught because my favorite SO wasn't there and ended up getting DQ'd for my first time ever.
Looking forward to next months match.

DQ, I hate when that happens.
How did the new pistol run?
The M&P and I were doing well. I was probably running pretty close to Russ on the scoresheets and he placed fourth overall so I was having a decent day. Completed the first three stages and got my DQ on stage four.
I'm going to have to find a way to use the course design software and start designing stages. I think I can lay out some simple courses that will be fun and challenging without having to drag out a crap ton of props that take forever to set up and tear down.

In the early days of IDPA i picked up a car door to use for a stage. Sit in chair facing forwards (Buzzer) turn pick up pistol, engage 3 steel or was it 4 and 1 paper.
We don't need a car door. We have a whole car. It's a cream puff. Some sort of Isuzu I think. A real classic.
I hate when they drag that thing out.

It's an Isuzu Rodeo.

I like the car, good opportunity to practice muzzle control while doing acrobatics getting in/out.
I always feel like I need a shower after getting out of that vehicle.
What followed me home from the range yesterday was be careful of your reloads. Poor guy on my squad had a squib load, then on the very next stage he blew his gun apart. He was having a rough day.
Sweet. I love it when (other people's) stuff explodes.
Shooting at popular public shooting spots in the mountains I've found two 30 round ar mags on the ground. They work so followed me home.

Those are probably some of those mags that Dumbass DeGette went on and on about... [Coffee]
Besides buckets of brass, there were 18 M1 Garand enblocs came home with me once. And a pretty nice jacket another time.
I found a spotting scope in the trash can at the range once. An older Bushnell (or Bausch &a Lomb?). Not sure why it was in the trash but you know what they say about one man's trash.
I found a 1/2" thick 12" gong about mile down the road of some public land I use to use in Kentucky. Figured it fell out of the back of someone's truck.

They must have been driving like a jackass. That's a heavy object to bounce out of the bed of a truck.

There was some rebar and short loops of firehose on the shoulder also. Not sure what happened.
