Anyone else on Century Link unable to log in here most of the day?
I could see the site if I used a proxy like hide.me (https://hide.me/en/proxy), but if I used it I couldn't actually log in.
Just wondered if Century Link was doing something nefarious, or just incompetent :p
Oh well, I guess its probably just something was broken on their end since I can get in now.

I know around centennial and im sure other places they have been replacing a lot of boxes..they have been doing it between 00 hours and 0500 hours though..at least most of the time.
I had the same issue. Century Link.
Couldn't find the server or some nonsense and wouldn't let me log in.
Looks like century link has us locked out again this morning. Won't find the server when I'm on wifi. Turn wifi off and switch to cellular network and it pops right up.
If this becomes a regular thing it might be time to switch to Comcast internet.

DNS issue?
They've had those before, could try using public DNS servers like 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

I think the error I got said something about DNS.
But you're speaking pig Latin to me.

Ah, that makes sense. If they're replacing equipment it might take a few hours for the new equipment to repopulate the DNS info. Although this does make me think more and more about using openDNS.

DNS means Domain Name Servers, its the thing that converts a web site's address into its IP address (which is where it actually is) ... without it you'd have to go to http://204.144.128.249/ instead of http://www.ar-15.co to get here. Now that I know the IP address I should bookmark it so I can get here if they screw up DNS again.
If they're exchanging gear that is DNS dependant or affected, one would think they would shorten their TTL or force refresh, no?
I couldn't get on on Thursday night. Thought it was my router but talked to a human on the phone around midnight and a guy came out Friday afternoon, fixed the issue and doubled my speed.
Try getting service like that with Comcast. If I had Comcast, I would still be waiting on the phone stuck in their automated system.
Come to think of it, I DID have one failure to log in here this weekend. Didn't think anything of it, just went to a different forum. When I came back here I had no problem.

I've always had great service, I honestly don't know why people seem to complain.
Then there's this: (taken from my desktop while downloading an ISO image from (slow) IBM on another machine, but considering my paid cap is 200Mbps and I consistently get 240Mbps, I'm thrilled.

Aren't you running an aftermarket router and setup? I wonder how much of the complaints stem from ISP-provided equipment?
Yeah,,,, I get like 8 or 12 down and .90 up usually.... switching when I get around to ordering the equipment for Comcast.

When I was on comcast, I always ran a Motorola SB6141 modem and stand alone router. No sense in paying extra for a crappier modem. I just gave my owned modem to a couple in church and helped them set it up, and they have had fewer issues in the last week than ever before.
On a business connection, if you want the static IP option, Comcast forces you to use their POS modem/router in one, and it is a TOTAL PILE!!!!

I have a modem up in the TP.

Motorola 7420* (16x4), UniFi USG (wire speed).
Of course, that was run from my wired desktop.
I was on an old Arris data/voip 4x (very early DOCSIS 3) modem that sucked and while it at one time saw 95Mbps, lately it had been super slow (neighborhood saturation?)
Moving my VOIP to Ooma, and changing out to 200Mbps service with the Mot has been nice. I will say the VOIP quality on Ooma isn't quite as good as it was on Comcast, but I also have the telo downstream from the firewall. Not that it should matter with the tests I've done.
I also ditched my crappy Linksys WAP and got a modern WiFi AP (UniFi Pro) so all my connections are also once again stable and reliable. The WiFi here was s giant shit sandwich before.
* aka Zoom/Arris. I liked the Mot offering best (packaging , thermal management).
I'm the process of buying a new router and modem for our Comcast cable. Tech said we got 100+MB into the home, but drops to 60MB or less download speed and 5MB up after our router. I hate this computer stuff partly because I don't understand WTF is going on.

Wireless?
That's about average for most home WiFi
Everyone also should look into disabling your open xfinity public hotspot if you have a cable modem/wifi router combo...
Post up what gear you have.
^^^Will do, and thanks. Could I send you a PM with info on a modem and router that was recommended to us as I value your opinion on them?

Just be aware any speed guarantees are strictly on the wired Ethernet side they do not guarantee wireless speeds in any way shape of form.
60MB is my wired speed. It drops 40+MB.
