Are there any specific laws to owning the brass knuckles that are paperweights for your desk etc? [M2]

I'd look to see if I can find the reference, but I recall reading something about a month ago that specifically said brass knuckles are illegal in CO - even if you use them as a paperweight only.

Colorado law is very clear on this matter. The use you give this device is irrelevant. The possession of metallic knuckles or any other "illegal weapon" - as identified by C.R.S. 18-12-102 (2) - earns the offender a Class 1 Misdemeanor unless the person meets the requirements of affirmative defense as presented in C.R.S. 18-12-102 (5).

I have one of these. Except mine is a belt buckle. :)
Is it a registrable item?

Is it a registrable item?
Perhaps after a 4 month waiting period, $200 tax stamp, registration in an FBI database, and a training course.

I purchase mine in South Dakota at the Sturgis rally, before I started buying guns.

Items in the "Dangerous Weapons" list can be registered; items in the "Illegal Weapons" list cannot.
Is something like that covered under a Colorado Concealed Weapon Permit? My CWP only says I'm authorized to carry a concealed weapon. It doesn't define "weapon", or go into any specifics. To me, a ballpeen hammer in my pocket would be a concealed weapon, and so would brass knucks. And I have a permit saying I can carry a concealed weapon.
Just a gray area I've wondered about.....I don't carry weapons that don't go bang.
Hmmmm, the only brass knuckles I have, all have vertical foregrips on them.
I've seen them for sale at Crossroads of the West before....not sayin they're legal, just that I seen em.
While we're on the topic, I've always wanted to point out how a fully loaded, compact pistol magazine, seems like it would make the perfect fist pack.

It's not really much of a gray area. In Colorado, what we get issued is a "Permit to Carry a Concealed Handgun" and the statute define both the word "permit" (18-12-202 (6) "Permit" means a permit to carry a concealed handgun issued pursuant to the provisions of this part 2; except that "permit" does not include a temporary emergency permit issued pursuant to section 18-12-209) and "handgun" (18-12-101 (1) (e.5) "Handgun" means a pistol, revolver, or other firearm of any description, loaded or unloaded, from which any shot, bullet, or other missile can be discharged, the length of the barrel of which, not including any revolving, detachable, or magazine breech, does not exceed twelve inches). Also, as was mentioned before, our laws also discuss "metallic knuckles" specifically branding them "illegal".
The example of the ball-peen hammer is a good one but now we go into the area of "intent" and that is a whole other topic. :)

Except you are crushing your fingers, too...
So can you carry an AR pistol with a 7" barrel? What about an AOW? Seems like you can, since their definition of "handgun" sounds like any type of gun you could come up with that has a barrel 12" or less.
I've seen brass knuckles for sale at the Tanner gun show too.
I had a pair when I was a kid growing up in Chicago.

Roll of Quarters
On this thought keep in mind that it typically doesn't matter what they are made of...plastic, steel, rubber...all can get you in trouble.

What I don't understand is, how does this seem to waltz past the second amendment.
We have the right to keep and bear arms. Arms are weapons, not just guns. Brass knuckles are weapons. Our right to keep and bear weapons can not be infringed, how can it be possible for any "illegal weapon" to exist?
[Bang] I have had a pair of Brass Knuckles for about 15 years. I bought them at a shop when I was 18 yo. Know I need to figure something out because if they are straight illegal then I don't need to be keeping them around.

Yeah, they may not have been legal but were very necessary in Chicago back in those days (1950's 60's & 70's) especially around 35th & State.[Tooth]

Metallic knuckles are illegal in CO. ALL forms of knuckles, including plastic ones, are illegal in Denver.
