CODOT's plan for I-70: https://codot.gov/projects/i70east

What's happening in Atlanta right now after a fire on I-85 under Atlanta...

Please keep it civil, or I will personally ask the mods to shut this discussion down.

I'm sure they'll get the park built quickly on top of I-70. Probably won't mess traffic up for more than a couple of days.

You know, just like the little 225 widening project or that neat "T-Rex" project.

After everyone applauded the Stapleton move that allowed removal of the runways over I-70.

I think that'd be awesome. I just don't want to have to deal with the traffic while that construction takes place, even though I'm hardly ever on that portion of the highway.

There were runways going over the interstate?

Yeah, you'd drive under taxing airplanes on your way to Stapleton airport.

Lol. Yep. Moved here in 1998.

But at least I didn't come here from California.

Yeah, traffic was usually screwed up because of drivers slowing down as the view closed in. This was particularly true during daylight hours as eyes accustomed to sunlight were instantly in full shade trying to adjust.

Maybe we could just build Denver into two layers. The top could be all parks and trails and sunshine and stuff and the bottom level would be all dark and shady with lots of crime.

Kind of like in Demolition Man.

It definitely would have been nice to see the people who dreamed this little project up put that talent to use by coming up with a plan to fill some potholes instead.

They're the same crew, or closely related to the crowd who scammed everyone in to building DIA. They didn't name Pena Blvd after Fast Freddy, They named it because it runs through his property ;) A lot of politicians made a decent profit off that land out in noweheresville.

Please... we all know that DIA was built by the Illuminati, just look at the art and the runways in the shape of a swastika.

Yeah, look at all those brake lights.

brutal
03-30-2017, 22:42
Well, technically they were taxiways.

But yea, big choke point too and no breakdown lanes so any accident or stall created pure havoc. Not much worse than the Mousetrap...

Back then, I was a road warrior and spent all day driving around Denver fixing broken shit. I covered mostly Parker to Cheyenne (and sometimes beyond.) I once had to fly into Riverton Wyo to do a repair job at a dairy.

Can always review the history of the "Big Dig" in Boston to see what a timeline might be:

"Planning began in 1982; the construction work was carried out between 1991 and 2006; and the project concluded on December 31, 2007"

A lot of people forget -- or don't know -- how hard Pena put the full court press on to get final approval. I was attending tech classes at Lowry AFB when Pena and Romer had a town hall to [strike]lie[strike] assure residents how great the new airport was going to be and how it was in Denver's best interests. Up until that session, I think the Denver Post was figuring it was 50-50 whether or not they would get voter approval to go ahead with DIA.

Ha! I miss Ikea about as much as I miss construction on I-70. The nearest interstate is over 100 miles away!

Maybe CDOT will add a "safe space" in that nice, park-like setting over I-70...that's gonna take decades to build!

There was an alternate plan to re-route I-70 up around 270 to 76 and widen and improve the highway as needed. Open up the neighborhoods on both sides of the viaduct back to the way they were before it was built. But no they decide on this major cluster fuck instead.

Just remember if the transportation bill is sent to the voters vote a big NOT.

That bill, with the bonding, is a bad idea. Colorado contractors are already close to capacity, and dumping billions in a short period of time will inflate prices, giving us less bang for the buck. It would be better to just pay as revenue is raised.

The CCA will debate this, but go look at CDOT bidding. They used to have 5 to 7 bidders per project, now 1 to 3. Aggregate pits are rationing and no new pits are being approved in the metro area. Aggregates would need to be trucked in to meet demand.

Speaking of cluster f**k projects, when are they going to get that darn light rail finished up my way?

Not only am I anxiously awaiting convenient transportation to and from the downtown area but I'm also looking forward to Bert's posts once that thing is running fifty yards from his back door.

Now that Thornton has hired 750 extra Police officers, we could really use the extra crime the light rail will import.

When the wife and I were house shopping in January we looked at one up in Thornton and I noticed that there were some light rail crossings and stations being built so it can't be too long. This was near 120th and Colorado.
