Does anyone have a set of go/no-go gauges for .300 blk? I have a new upper coming this week, that didn't come with a BCG, so I want to check the headspace with the bolt I plan to use. Prefer to borrow or rent, but could be talked into purchasing. The further south the better if there are multiple sets floating around since I am in Pueblo.

Failing a loaner set, does anyone know of a local smith that has a set and could check it for me for a small fee?

Thanks,

I was lucky enough to borrow a set of 308 gauges from a fellow member, but if all else fails, here's two place to try.

I have checked numerous 300 uppers over the years and have yet to find one that isn't good.

And thats checking 300 Whisper, 300 hush, 300-221, 300 Blackout, ect.

out of curiosity, what keeps you from loading it up and seeing if it'll just shoot?

Probably nothing, I hang around with too many engineers and not enough test pilots I guess.

Not enough head space and the bolt likely won't close. Pretty hard to get an AR to fire out of battery but that would be the "worst case", with too much head space, it could pop primers, tear the head off the cases, and possibly vent a bunch of gas back in my face, not to mention accuracy would probably suffer. There are some KABOOM pictures that look pretty scary and are probably unrelated to head space.

As Hoser indicated, new parts from quality manufacturing probably are good to go. However, given how easy it is to check I see no reason not to.

My reasoning, plus it allowed me to buy a new tool! :)

I'm sure you're all familliar with the process: See a neat tool, create a project that requires it, then buy it.
