[soap]
I've got a junk car (1999 Suburban with blown head gasket and no wheels) that I'm trying to get rid of...
couldn't find title- fine, go apply for duplicate...
DMV: "it's not in your name, it appears to be in your wife's name... she has to be here"
Me: "She's in Texas, and doesn't want to come back here"
DMV: "you could get her to fill out this power of attorney form, then you get apply in person for duplicate"
have her overnight (which isn't overnight from Canton to Canon City, it's 2 day) the form after she's filled it out and notarized
Then go to the DMV and get a duplicate printed right there... bring it to her in Texas on my last run bringing stuff there and have her sign it... great, right?
oh fuck no... that would be too easy... because it's a duplicate, it's still in my wife's name...
And apparently junk yards are "not allowed" (their words) to buy vehicles unless the person WHOSE NAME IS ON THE TITLE is present.
This is a marital property state- if we were getting divorced, she could likely wind up with a vehicle that's only in my name (or vice-versa)... so WTF is this a problem?
I wanted to try telling one "well, she's dead"... when in reality Colorado is just dead to her.
ME: "can I just transfer the title into my name"
DMV: "sure, but we can only print titles for the same VIN once every 30 days here... since you had that duplicate printed, it has to go to the state and they mail you one"
ME: "why didn't you say that in the first place, could I have transferred the vehicle to me with the power of attorney"
DMV: "not without a title"
ME: "I need a drink"
now it looks like there are places that will take it just for recycle value (maybe $200)... and they haven't mentioned that same title issue (but maybe it will come up when I'm there)
There is also plenty of good parts on it, but I guess they're all getting crushed because of dumbass state policies/laws
I'm thinking it would be more satisfying to drop it off in front of the capital building and set it on fire...
These rules are all made by this shitty demonrat legislature, with the collective thought that everybody has to be punished for the actions of a few
why not just throw the book at someone who sells a family member's car to a salvage yard? No, much better to throw a bunch of bullshit bureaucratic red tape at everyone else...
probably because the majority of the legislature feels like it's something they might do, so we need to protect people from it...
need to sit down and write a nasty letter to all the CO legislature about how they are driving good people out with their bullshit...
