August 3-6 2017 will be the Magpul Governor's Match, administered by Competition Dynamics. Magpul is the title sponsor so plan on massive support from them, as well as many other sponsors as well. The prize table will be well over 100K for this event and right now is bringing shooters from all over the nation.

This will be a 2 gun event (Carbine/pistol) held at the Otto Road shooting range in Cheyenne, Wyoming.

The Governor's office is really stepping up for this event, and is making a push to promote shooting sports within the state in a big way.

There will be blocks of hotels rooms available at discounted rates, as well as a informational flyer to be out soon.

I have participated in quite a few matches hosted by Competition Dynamics. They are good matches and very well run. Their website asks for a bit of info, but basic info, name, email, caliber, match experience. You will hear back from them in a couple days, I don't believe they are screening applicants. They have also always been good with email and questions. I shot my first big match with them and was very green to the sport, I let them know in advance and they squaded me with some very experienced guys.

My only beef is that they make me send in checks by mail. What the hell guys! Give me a cc online payment option :)

Awesome, will be great to see you there. I'm working some LE/Mil sponsor stuff and for what we are working on there is a Glock, JP, and Point Blank product for LE/Mil folks, separate to the main PT.

Why is it going to take three days to shoot eight stages? For a major event costing $100.00 a day bringing in shooters from all over the nation, are they going to come for eight stages in three days? Sounds like a lot of down time.

I have a question.

Not really important but I was just curious if there was a reason for this being a "two gun" match?

Just curious.

Thanks.

Were you there the day Governor Mead was doing a walk through at Oto Road Range conjuring the idea about the Governors Cup?

Through talks with Governor's office, CD came to an agreement that the SG offers more complexity for new shooters. That said a 2 gun match will be much more enjoyable. Plus we can up the round count more for pistol and carbine.

As for questions there are multiple way to contact us. I can be asked here, or via email. The rules are very transparent, and stated clearly. If it's not in there you can have it on your gun granted the class retractions that are limited to the class you sign up for, and there are 3 classes, OPEN, TACTICAL and LIMITED.

So ask away...

Myself and the CD principle were there (Wyoming Day at the Range) as well as the match title sponsor, Magpul. Sorry we missed you.

Thanks. I was just curious.

My skill set isn't quite good enough to get me sponsors to cover my entry fees and I'm too tight with my own money to sign up.

Sounds like a good time.

Hope the event is a success.

That is the norm for most all Regional/National level matches.

You could just water everything down and do a bunch of stages in one day, but that would suck.

Jimmy isn't new to running Regional/National level matches. I am 110% sure this match will be awesome.

You won't find more than a very small handful of shooters out there that get entry fees covered. There is even fewer people that get free guns and stuff.

Just because someone wears a professional bowlers shirt that resembles a billboard does not mean they are sponsored and get freebies.

Asking for previous match experience is mutually beneficial. If you happen to be an inexperienced competition shooter there's absolutely nothing wrong with that, in fact, we encourage you to come out! We'll even do you a favor and probably squad you with some shooters with more experience, and trust me, it would go a long way for your learning experience. It has been my personal experience that the guys with the most experience and best advice to give are usually the most enthusiastic about giving said advice to anyone less experienced but also enthusiastic about the sport. Our benefits seem obvious to me: we know what to expect and therefor plan for it. If we expect a lot of first timers then we'll more than likely design the match accordingly. Alternatively, if everyone lies and claims to be super experts then the match will probably only be fun for the real super experts. If you want to come shoot, then please do, I only ask that you bring a good attitude.

I fully understand that. My point was more about me being a cheapskate.

Good point.

Traveling to matches isn't cheap thats for sure. I hate to think how much I have spent since I started shooting competitively.

Thank you Casey S.
IMO being an ambassador to the sport is the primary objective in today's climate. Well put!

I'll leave the "filling out of information" as some sort of evasive/intrusive measure that we are taking and 2 people here have issues with it..Done, but I will say one last thing, we have multiple applications (10+) that say "new B", and this has never been an issue until now.

I don't have a problem with filling out the form. I simply was replying to the statement that had said some places require a 4473 to train/shoot at and that it doesn't imply competency. So if you're counting myself as one of those who has an issue with that part of the entry form I request you reread my previous post.

I asked several direct questions but I will list them more clearly again.

What are the rules on the guns? Do you adopt say ipsc standards or something I can google? Mag sizes, aftermarket gizmos etc. So I can bring a 17, 34 or 17L because of some barrel length specific max? Holsters? Or it this one of the matches that a holster is pointless?

What defines the classes? You have open, tactical and limited here. Open tactical and irons listed on the website. Based on some assumption of mine; open is guys with race guns? Tactical is guys with glass or possibly non magnified red dots with magnification on a rifle pushing you up to open?

What distances? You guys put on some impressive sniper courses I've followed for years. Is the max shot going to be 800yards with irons? 400? 200? This would lead me to choose a rifle and sight combo.

Optics? What do you define as optics? Un magnified red dots are optics or not?

Round count Zak has said will be announced later. This goes directly to my budget to join in so I won't be able to make a decision until then. Also distance will directly effect my caliber and round choice. I have to put in for the time off from work and all that effects me, I've had to back out of classes before because I didn't get work covered in time a few weeks ahead of time is cutting it VERY close for my day job.

Scheduling, am I able to go home after my string stage or however you put it us done or do I need hang out between shooting all day before driving home?

I was using the filling out form 4473 as an example of not wanting to do something, but you have to, to get to the end result. In this case a simple entry on the form like, "plenty"," newb", "20 years competitive shooting" would suffice and would absolutely not raise any red flags what so ever.

There really is no max on barrel lengths for pistols, as long as it can be holstered in a safe manor and re-holstered. G23,19,17,34,17L are all legit blasters for this event. The said would fall into a "limited class" gun, Unless there is an optic which pushes that gun into "open class", and your carbine should match what your pistol (comped, laser, phaser or whatever).

Simplified:
Open class-multiple optics on carbine, optic on pistol (comped or not) it should be comped
Tactical class-multiple optics on carbine, iron sights on pistol (no compensators)
Limited class-iron sights on rifle, iron sights on pistol

Limited class is Limited class, so no single power optic allowed, just straight up irons. In this case unmagnified optics will push you into Tactical class.

*Note, we are using USPSA Open and Tactical class rules for pistols, 170mm mag length max for ONLY for Open, and 140mm mag length max for Tactical and Limited classes

You are competing against the others in your class ONLY, and there will also be a overall ranking of everyone for a giant prize.

Max distances will be around 400+ yards and in, there will be a guaranteed LR stage, and we are currently working on fitting another in, so I would plan on 2. The rest of the range is short, so expect some close shooting 75 yards and in.

Zak was correct on accurate ammo counts, they will be announced a month out from first shot but I would plan on 250 of each for this event and you should be good.

The stages will be very dynamic, movement to cover, crawling, jumping in and out of MRAPS, retrieving your carbine from a WY State Patrol Cruiser, moving from WYARNG helicopter to the shoot positions, carrying awkward things and so on..

Both guns will be used in the courses of fire, again engagements will be from inches to 400+ yards, and pistol out to 50-70 yards.

Schedule will be something like shoot 2 stages am, lunch, shoot 1 or 2 more pm (spending on schedule)...repeat 2nd day then go home.

You will want to be with your squad the whole day, leaving is optional and not recommended. once a COF is shot, you then have time to hydrate, re fit and watch the squad in front of you shoot the stage you you scheduled on next.

Clear as mud?

The way to raise your skillset is to enter a major. If you sign up, I will give you 6 boxes of Aguila 9mm. How's that for incentive?

It should be for the match as long as they are 50rnd boxes.... Good on MarkCO for offering this.

There will be plenty of other cool stuff going at the match Lucas Oil is a GOLD sponsor and will have a TON of product for the shooters as "give a ways".

I've shot formal and informal IDPA but this will be my 1st 2-Gun. One of our potential squad has shot numerous 3-Gun including last year at CRC. The year Mark called me out for not taping targets when I was only a guest. Just kidding Mark...I turned my ankle on that tire rut on the last station. You didn't know that I wasn't a shooter that day.

I only hope I'm not in the same Squad as Mark's son. That boy can shoot!

I just pray that I can make a COF without blowing another knee. I'm tired of knee surgeries.

I believe Zak was going to send a "Squad Request" form out. Hope I see it soon.

Look forward to seeing some of you guys. I know who Mark is. Will Junior be there? Good egg.

Not long now, I'm really looking forward to the match.

The 2017 Magpul Gov's match uses the USPSA safety rules as a baseline, will there be a USPSA style Unloading/Loading Station?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2.5 Unloading/Loading Station

2.5.1 If it is possible that some competitors arriving at a range where a
USPSA match is being held may be in possession of a loaded firearm
on their person (e.g. law enforcement officers, persons duly authorized
to carry a loaded firearm, etc.), match organizers should provide an
Unloading/Loading Station to enable such competitors to safely unload
their firearms prior to entering the range, and to safely load their
firearms again on departure from the range. The Unloading/Loading
Station should be conveniently located outside the entrance to the range
(or outside the portion of the range allocated to the USPSA match), it
should be clearly sign-marked and it must include a suitable impact
zone.

2.5.2 Where no Unloading/Loading station is provided, a
competitor who arrives at a match in possession of a loaded firearm and
proceeds immediately to a match official for the express purpose of
safely unloading the firearm shall not be subject to disqualification per
the provisions of Rule 10.5.13.
