How does one go about doing this? What I thought was wrong apparently and figured I'd reach out to the gurus.

Form 4 transfer, just like buying one new. I have a suppressor purchase from an individual pending right now.

The owner keeps the suppressor until he receives the stamp.

Being in the same state helps too. Less paperwork.

Cool. Kinda figured that was the way to go, did you two do any kind of bill of sale? If I'd sell it to someone out of state does that change anything?

You'd first have to transfer it to an FFL in the destination state, which will take 9 months and $200, then the buyer has to do the F4 from the FFL in their state, involving another $200.

It's basically not worth it to buy a used suppressor across state lines.

I bought one via private party in state before I moved. It actually was a super smooth process.
