...according to Rich Mayfield, anyway, author of this very hypocritical opinion piece published in the 10/03 edition of the Summit Daily News:

Oh yeah, and Mr. Mayfield should definately move to California, Chicago or D.C. to enjoy the safety of their very restrictive gun laws.

Mayfield is an ass-clown... I wonder what its like to be so terrified of the world around him. I just don't understand this pervasive victim mentality which so many people in this country seem to be possessed by. If anything, I hope the recent rush on guns and ammunition will serve as a wake up call to our government that WE THE PEOPLE, will only take so much. As for the issue of race, its a non-issue. If we had a white president who was as venomously anti gun as Obama, the reaction would be exactly the same.

Like, umm, I dunno... Bill Clinton, for example?
I only like Hornady and Wolf cased ammo myself.
Wolf ammo has a bad smell to it and it's just different. I hope my daughters never shoot that stuff.[Coffee]

Actually, the reaction was the same. In the clinton era, during the time period the Brady Act was being discussed and written, ammo, primers, SKSs, AKs, ARs, high cap mags, and many other guns and accessories VANISHED. If I remember correctly, Billy was a white guy. The only correlation that I can see is a Democrat president who resoundly supports butt-raping the second amendment like a life term convict. The color of the the rapist's skin is coincidental.
This is a horrible article and his stance is completely unsupported by any actual facts. To make it even worse his conclusion has no relation to his causes. It's erroneous cause and effect. This paper must be really hurting and cannot afford better, more expensive, journalists.

Yeah, I agree SAFriday. Is your avatar Thor's hammer BTW? I remember buying as much ammo as I could get my hands on when slick Willie got elected. Mr. Mayfield is a prime example of how anti gun laws get passed to begin with. People who have an irrational and often paralyzing fear of the world around them have an emotional reaction to an event and then base thier decisions and, frequently, thier votes on that emotional reaction.`
Whenever I get sucked into a gun control discussion on-line, there is always at least one guy who shows up and makes some comment about how horrible my life must be, to be so afraid of the world that I feel like I need to carry a gun. I've tried to turn it around and tell that guy that I find it ironic that the person who is all for irresponsible, ineffective "gun control" on a large basis, that negatively effects ALL legal gun owners, just to try and stop the few bad ones, is telling me that I'm the one afraid of the world. It has nothing to do with fear, and everything to do with accepting that no one is better equipped to protect myself, than myself.

Hey Sturle. I'm sorry if I accidentally offended you. You make my point exactly when you say no one is better equipped to defend you, than you. I FULLY, FULLY support taking personal responsibility for one's own safety and security. When I said "afraid of the world", I ment Mr. Mayfield, the author of the article. Not you sir. My apologies.
Frequently, when I encounter gun-grabbers, they seem to have the attitude that guns are too "dangerous" to be in the possession of anybody but the police and military. Yet still, these same people are terrified of criminals, pit bulls, cars without safety belts, pretty much "the whole world around them". Instead of taking personal responsibility, they look to the government to make them "feel safe". That is what I ment. Again, my apologies.
I knew what you were talking about, I wasn't offended by your post. It just reminded of how every time I get into that debate, I have someone who believes that all guns should be melted down and wiped out of existence, that I'm the one who is afraid of things. It's as irritating as it is ironic.
I thought Clinton was the first black president?????

What a great group of responses I'm reading here in this thread. I've never been particularly good at debate so when I get some dipstick talking anto-gun smack I can never get the words out that I have running around in my head that would show the error of their ways.
This is why I do most of my responses in writing - I get time to review and try to make my words lucid, intelligent, and well thought out. Sometimes I still fail! BUT...
Here is the response I sent on to this Opinion piece:
It never ceases to amaze me. By believing our sitting President's political views and professed intent to remove your 2nd Amendment rights are dangerous and un-Constitutional regularly leads to being branded a racist. I'm sure there are many folks out there that have an issue with Mr. Obama's race but, personally, I don't know anyone who honestly has a problem with it. I do know a great number of individuals who take issue with his politics. Throwing out the race card is just another way those who disagree with OUR views can stop us in our tracks. The more you try to profess that race isn't an issue, the more you appear to be guilty of the charge. Isn't it peculiar that the only ones really making an issue of race are those who claim to support this man?
Now, regarding the association of lunacy and loving firearms & ammo. The notion in and of itself is crazy and has no substance. Is it crazy to want the means to protect one's self and family? No. There are those who make the case that the police will protect you. On Jun 27, 2005, the U.S. Supreme Court, in their decision in the case of Castle Rock v. Gonzales (http://www.zwire.com/site/news.cfm?newsid=14766800&BRD=1585&PAG=461&dept_id=213470&rfi=6)(yes, that’s Castle Rock, Colorado), ruled that the police do NOT have a requirement to protect you. Here in Colorado Springs, recent data published by the city government shows that the average police response time is now at nine minutes and 55 seconds (Source: http://www.springsgov.com/units/police/miscDocs/2009FastFacts.pdf (http://www.springsgov.com/units/police/miscDocs/2009FastFacts.pdf)). This is 3 minutes and 55 seconds longer than the average home invader spends inside a home. With cuts looming to our already thinly stretched police force, these numbers can only be expected to go up. This also fails to take into account that, with the continued financial struggles more and more Americans are facing, statistics show that violent crime rates increase accordingly. Given this information, it is my opinion that not possessing the means to protect oneself and one's family is nothing short of lunacy.
Additionally, there are individuals, such as myself, who enjoy ethical and managed hunting with firearms, just as I enjoy sport target shooting. Crazy? Most everyone has at least one hobby, these are just a couple of mine. I’m inclined to think it’s nuts to ski or mountain bike down a mountain, kayak in whitewater, or jump out of a perfectly good airplane, but other folks seems to enjoy these activities. More power to them.
It is my opinion that Mr. Mayfield is simply an ignorant bigot (yes BIGOT; look up the definition). I pray that he will never find himself in need of protecting himself because we know that he doesn’t believe in the right to do so.
Okay team CO-AR15, discussion?

"...if our gun-toting folk manage to fire off every bullet and cartridge over the next 12 months, I worry there won't be a deer, elk, moose, bear or human being left standing."

Yes, that was an excellent response ginsue. I was raised with guns. My dad was and still is a pretty well known gunsmith in the springs area. As such, when the other kids were on the baseball diamond or the football field, I was on the rifle range or learning to shoot trap. (I still suck at trap). I never even knew there were people who wanted to take all of that away until I got older. Nearly every shooter I ever met is a good, solid honest guy. We really are a different breed. I've been in competitions where if one guy has an equipment failure, his #1 competitor will offer to lend him a spare. I'm so sick and tired of these attacks on what I consider a way of life. I've never shot, robbed, killed, or otherwise harmed any fellow human being with any firearm. I'm sure none of you have either. This leads me to believe the real intent of gun control has never been about crime, but about power.
