I've started a new gig where I rive passengers around in a sprinter type van. Dress attire is slacks, white shirt and short vest. I'm looking for ideas on options to carry a shield or possibly a Glock 42. Most of the time I's sitting on my arse driving. I've never tried an ankle holster, or a compression type shirt but looking for opinions from those that have as well as any other ideas you may have. Mounting the weapon in the vehicle is not an option .
Thanks in advance,
Brett

Any deep concealment is going to increase the time to get to it...
https://www.outdoorhub.com/how-to/2013/08/13/four-ways-to-carry-a-gun-in-your-underwear/

but if deep concealment is needed to avoid detection, I suggest getting it into your crotch... I've used a smart carry before... anyone asking if your packing is asking for a sexual harassment case.

If you will be sitting in a car a lot, ankle may be your most comfortable and accessible bet. I've been known to ankle carry exclusively on long road trips, with an OWB on the belt to transition to if we are out of the car for an extended period of time. Call me crazy, but I like options.

Definately good points- but I never opted for ankle carry in those situations because when I tried it out, I could get a pant leg hung up on it... it's more accessible but (at least in my case) at the expense of more likely to be detected.

I wasn't driving in a car, but was sitting at a desk.... was always able to get it comfortable- but you're going to have a real hard time getting to it unless you stand up (thru the zipper is an option- did some drills with that... could draw attention when you're trying to get to it, tho... you could always claim you have crabs, lol)

If you were willing to sacrifice firepower, something like this disappears in just about any sort of pocket.

my p238 fits in an suede iPod case and disappears in my front pants pocket.

Or if the vest is yours you could try sewing in a pocket Inside the weak side flap

anf I am a skinny 32x36 pant so me hiding stuff is hard

I’m a big fan of cross draw holsters when seated in a car. OWB high ride belt holsters or shoulder holsters would be my choice.

Any weight in a vest will show, unfortunately.

I've always thought ankle was the easiest and best for concealing. An IWB in the front is an option for people that don't have a belly. (I'm currently unavailable for that myself)

IMO, carry the same way all of the time if at all possible. Getting the gun out fast is not as important as getting the gun out at the right time. Never draw on a drawn gun.

While comfort is important because carrying for 18 to 20 hours a day will become more uncomfortable over days and weeks, it is more important to conceal, secure, and become proficient in getting the weapon out and on target with as little fuss as possible.

Based on the clothing you described, you should have no problem with an IWB on your dominate side. In addition to your normal dry firing, you should add some seated draw and present practice. If possible, bring a folding seat to the range if you are permitted and practice drawing and shooting from a seated position. If there is a possibility you will be shooting toward the back of the vehicle, turn the chair around and practice drawing, twisting your torso and shooting backwards at the target. Find someone who is proficient and willing to be a range safety for you. This person should be someone you are willing to trust in giving you corrective criticism and keeping you safe as you practice.

Personally, the only thing I would carry on my ankle is a backup, and backups are only used when all else fails.

Being attentive and having good situational awareness is more important in my opinion than your choice of carry style. If it absolutely becomes necessary for you to draw, you want to go where you know your gun will always be. The movements need to be second nature and based on as much muscle memory as you can manage. You will not want to dig around or pat yourself down looking for your handgun.

Be safe.

Beretta 21a, tip up 22. 6 in the mag, 1 in the barrel keeps it hot. If its formal the wife carriers hers in reach, I'm holding my ol reliable High Standard 22 mag.
Either one hardly prints, if at all. Two up close and personal with some 22mag jhp's gets the point across.

If one of those sig 928's? fit me better, that would be my Sunday go to dinner piece. Rent one to see if it works for you.

Everybody has a different body type... y'all have to find what works for you...

Maybe crotch carry works for me because I'm a grow'er, not a show'er[ROFL1]

Everything that everyone has said so far is true, however, Cstone's post has stood out the most. He is absolutely correct. This coming from someone who has carried concealed for not quite 10 years in the same outfit as described in the original post. First it was a few different corporate jobs where being found out would result in immediate termination. Then working from home and meeting with customers at their homes which would have resulted in immediate termination, and more recently driving all day long, and meeting at people's homes that would result in immediate termination. The same style of IWB, strong side carry, has always worked just fine. Driving a vehicle is likely the very last place anyone will ever "make" you. I can count every single time anyone has ever noticed I was carrying on one hand, and three of them were family, or a close friend (giving a hug), at a social function. In my opinion, your primary concern should be the type of clip that secures your holster to your belt. Both style, and color (of belt and clip) need to be considered.

Thanks for all the help! Great suggestions and thoughtful replies. I am awaiting the vest in order to see if I am able to maintain my regular 4:00 carry position and use a smaller firearm which I would agree, is probably best.

Personally, I use a Crossbreed supertuck IWB holster for my Sig M11 and P229 (similar guns, one has a rail- same holster). I love the Crossbreed, and would highly recommend to anyone- conceals well, is very comfortable and I can get to my gun quick if need be.

And Crossbreed offers as an option what they call the "V Clip" (https://www.crossbreedholsters.com/v-clip.html) which is a clip with velcro on the front of it that just comes over the top of the pants and attaches to your belt via velcro on the backside of your belt. If worn properly they're 100% invisible.

I've always told myself I need to upgrade my holsters to the velcro clips but never remember to do so. I really like the idea of the clips being hidden behind the belt.
