I'm new here. What does it mean to recieve a "bump"? It seems to be a good thing...

It means that you've been bordering on rule breaking and you need slowing down, like a speed bump. JUST KIDDING!

This is true:
When someone posts on your thread it bumps it to the top and makes the entire thread look un-read.
Often people bump their own thread when they're trying to sell something so that everyone sees their ad again. BTT means Bump To Top. It took me a while to figure this out.
Also, SPF means Sold Pending Funds, FTF means Face To Face.

I've seen and used SPF to also mean SPoken For.
