America First!!

I would urge all of you to read the address made by SecState Rex Tillerson at the Department on May 3. Read the text itself (https://www.state.gov/secretary/remarks/2017/05/270620.htm), not the rather ignorant press reports about it, e.g., here (https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2017/may/03/rex-tillerson-america-first-speech-trump-policy?utm_source=esp&utm_medium=Email&utm_campaign=GU+Today+USA+-+Collections+2017&utm_term=224515&subid=3721434&CMP=GT_US_collection) and here (http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-39824026), which seem to rely entirely on reactions either by hard-core bureaucrats or outright Obamistas. It's a remarkable speech in its clarity and, must be noted, one of considerable gutsiness as Tillerson must have known how it would be twisted and maliciously misinterpreted. It also, ahem, happens to reflect just about everything I have ever said and thought about how we should run US foreign policy--here (http://www.thediplomad.com/2016/11/towards-pro-america-pro-west-foreign.html?m=0), for example.

Nice speech. We'll see what actually happens, but it would be great if his speech signals that they will be choking off the "human rights" bureaucracy with the upcoming budget cut.

Regarding the two "ignorant press reports" linked in the quote, I find it quite rich for Brits to be lecturing about what are and are not "American values."
