Took video on the rood today, are all the black "welts" considered damage or does that fall into cosmetic and not damage? Prior to the hail the color and texture across the roof was for lack of a better word consistent.

A few minutes on the roof for your entertainment.

And as for the the most rear portion of my roof I suspect this portion should have been done with some sort of rolled one piece covering considering the pitch. I remember as a child this portion had a different material on it than the rest of the roof. (left side of picture from neighbors chimney or so on my roof.

Got your PM. You didn't really get a close up of anything, BUT, since I know the general area of where you live, and know that area is almost the epicenter of the storm, I can tell that is all hail damage. Especially since you said all the black is new. That is well beyond cosmetic. I'm very confident that you will not have an issue turning in a claim. You are good to go on your roof.

All that said, You probably don't have to worry about a leak from what I can see (again, nothing up close). It looks like you got pretty beat up though. An adjuster will decide to buy the roof before they even step off the ladder.

Oh yeah, you are correct about the low slope over the rear porch. That should be modified bitumen. if you have a code upgrade endorsement on your policy, insurance will pay for it, otherwise you'll need to cover the difference to meet code. Shouldn't be prohibitively expensive if that is the case.

Oh yeah, you are correct about the low slope over the rear porch.

You had mentioned something previous like some kind of extra ice dam prevention related to the pitch? Are there extra underlayment options you can put under the shingles as a radiant barrier for the attic that I can pay for as an add on?

Wow. That's some hellacious bruising on those shingles.

I'm not aware of any underlayment that acts as a radiant barrier, not in residential roofing anyway. As for the other thing, you are referring to ice and water shield. That is a good product to have at the eaves and in the valleys. You wouldn't install ice and water shield and modified bitumen in the same area though. It's been awhile since I had quick access to code, but generally, slopes between 2/12 and 4/12 require double felt or an equivalent (ice and water shield), and slopes under 2/12 require modified bitumen or rolled roofing. I wouldn't bother with rolled roofing though, as mod bit is the preferred product. Again, I don't actually install roofs though.
