There were some growing pains with both services a couple of years ago with both services. If you had your file data and album art set up the way you wanted it both services would screw with your original files and on secondary devices they would not play your version of a song but the standard one they had in their catalog. (Playing a studio version when the original on your hard drive was live or similar issues). They were also DRM (Digital rights management) onto files that customers had burned from their own CD's

Have the fixed any of these issues and / or is it better at recognizing the versions of songs or albums with the way they now look at the songs acoustic fingerprint?

Thinking about giving it a shot again.

As far as I know it's still the same. If the song is in their library you get their version. If not, then it uses your uploaded version.
