JEFFERSON COUNTY, COLO. - A Jefferson County cyclist is suspected of shooting a gun while riding his bike to supposedly vent after what had been a "bad day."
The arrest report said that a woman had just gotten home from work at around 3:20 p.m. when she heard three loud “pops” from the street. She went outside and saw a man riding his bike down South Deer Creek Road. She saw him fire two more shots into a hillside across the street as he rode his bike.
There were homes on both sides of the road as well as one above the hillside, police noted.
The woman’s husband followed the cyclist and was the one to make the report of shots fired to the sheriff's office. The man confronted the cyclist, who first denied shooting but then said he that had been venting after a bad day.
The husband had taken video of the cyclist, and burned a copy to CD that he gave to the sheriff’s office after he made a report about the shooting.
The cyclist was wearing clothing with “UHC” stamped across his chest, back and the seat of his shorts. Later the husband and wife looked up the profiles on the United Healthcare Pro Cycling team's website and identified the shooter they’d seen as Daniel Summerhill. (http://uhcprocycling.com/mens-team/danny-summerhill/)
An officer met with Summerhill, who said he had been riding his bike in Deer Creek Canyon for five hours and had needed to let loose before he returned to his vehicle.
Summerhill said to the officer that he had not been on his bike while he was shooting, and that he had no idea the area was residential and that he was therefore not allowed to shoot there. He said he did not know he was breaking any laws and had not meant to cause trouble.
The arrest report noted that the distance between the three shell casings found, about 50 yards, supports the husband and wife’s account that he was shooting while riding.
Summerhill has been issued a summons for reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct.

Damn Daniel
Sheesh. If I popped off a few rounds every time I had a bad day I'd go broke buying ammunition.
Sounds like Daniel's day got worse. I don't understand people. There are signs up here with bullet holes in them and there is a houses visible behind the signs.

I cannot find DANIEL SUMMERHILL
Does it state what caliber he was shooting?
I didn't think bicyclist's wrists could handle more than a .22
Keep an eye out for the threats on wheels.

I think this activity is known as a "Boulder Drive-by Shooting".
When I get to pop a few rounds off into the side of a hill I count that as a good day.
Oh and whoever was looking for a road bike Daniel has one cheep.

That's why I only shoot from inside my truck...the casings aren't littered on the road 50 yards apart between houses. And I have a cupholder for my beer. I can't shoot, drink and ride a bike all at the same time.

How much do you think it costs UHC to maintain a team of 25, er 24, pro cyclists?

Damn, timing just wasn't on my side.
Also, does anyone have his contact info? I'd like to know what holster he would recommend while riding and if he would be willing to sell his. [ROFL1]
What a Month!!!!! 2 assholes in legal trouble. [LOL]
(see my signature for one ass hole).
I personally had bad dealing with this turd around Feb this year (around president's week). He flaked the fuk out on me twice. He was suppose to buy G17 I listed on armslist.
I am glad that he didn't buy it. I sure don't want to sell a G17 to an idiotic turd who will shoot off near residential area. I am fairly sure he won't get a jail time, but I sure hope he does.

Interesting to hear this allegedly happened February 21, and it just now made the news.
"Having been charged with disorderly conduct, discharging a weapon in a public place and reckless endangerment in Jefferson County, Colorado, Danny Summerhill has resigned effectively immediately from the UnitedHealthcare team.
A statement from the team on Tuesday confirmed the resignation.
"Momentum Sports Group holds our athletes to the highest standards of ethical conduct and accountability – both on and off the road. Following an internal investigation, we accepted Mr. Summerhill’s resignation from the team, effective immediately. The personal actions of one individual do not represent the values of our dedicated athletes, sponsors or fans, and we offer our sincerest apologies to anyone who may have been impacted," read a statement from the team.
Summerhill was seen firing a handgun into a hillside when riding along South Deer Creek Road during the afternoon of Tuesday, February 21. Joe Porter videotaped Summerhill, claiming he saw a handgun in his jersey pocket. Porter identified Summerhill's UnitedHealthcare kit, helping Deputy Jeffrey Pedersen track down Summerhill at a fitness club."

One of the better things about carrying a revolver. They don't leave evidence that might screw you.

OK, so am I the new designated cyclist here? If so, here goes: Cyclists are known as a fragile bunch, so the 'what recoil can they really handle' argument is pretty funny. Here's a better joke: What's the hardest part about bike racing? The Pavement.
This is no different than if a pro athlete of <insert favorite sporting activity here> did the same thing, but it's funny he did this from a moving bike.
All sarcasm and joking aside, I've never had a day that was bad enough to make me want to do a 'Strava Pop' (cycling equivalent of a desk/office pop).
Roid rage? ironic bc the main sponsor is a healthcare company.
Where did he conceal it? I can't even hide a granola bar. Imagine the dude pulling it out of his nethers while riding screaming FTW! and popping off a few.....

I would have told them I saw a mountain lion chasing me or a Boulder cougar. In a Benz with her top down...

"Strava Pop" he says. lulz
Judging by the timing,he probably bought a new pistol few days prior to 22ND incident. (I bet that it is Glock 17)
He was too damn lazy to go to the proper shooting range, and shot near where people resides.

I'm gonna go with this.
But I must say the guy that followed him and then confronted him is a: (choose as many as you deem appropriate)
A-A busy body prick
B-A libtard anti gun gash
C-A dumbass for confronting an individual known to be armed.

Funny, a few days ago we were going down Magnolia toward Boulder (mostly dirt road that turns into pavement with wicked tight switchbacks for a few miles - Ah Pook knows where I mean).
A dude I passed on a bicycle on the dirt was riding my friggin ass on the switchbacks, shaking his head and shit. I couldn't see his front tire in my rear view mirror.
Sometimes it's just nice to take your time and enjoy the scenery. Luckily he didn't start shooting......

Some cyclist see an up and down ride, on Mag, as a workout. Especially if they go all the way to 119. Not my idea of a good time. You big meany, you deprived that poor cyclist of his "bonsai" ride down the hill. [Rant2]
Speed limits ally to bikes also, they seem to forget that

I wasn't even trying to be a dick. You know that hill. You go too fast and you rip up tires, brakes start smoking and you might end up in a ravine. I just kept telling my wife "ignore him".
Edit: I have to admit that it was kinda fun to have the shoe on the other foot. [Coffee]
