Reloading tips. Read a loading manual then read it again. Don't do stupid things and invent stuff that will blow up your gun
Seriously loading is easy take your time and reference your manual not people from forums
gas guns have a much shorter brass life then bolt guns do to the starting the extraction process as soon as gas starts the unlocking process. Something like 4 reloads is common. Have to watch for case head seperations

I am considering machining an adjustable gas block with an on off switch and running it like a straight pull. My Google fu is not pulling up anything in production that acts like this. Anyone seen something like that? .936 bull barrel configuration?

Run it in the closed position. I do that with my SLR block

Best price brass is going to be Hornady, in a gas gun you'll see 3-4 loadings from it at best.
When building the rifle there's some considerations you need to take into account.
It's NOT a 308 in any way shape or form, you need a high pressure bolt, see JP enterprises for that.
Gas system needs to be longer than with 308 or it will be a pain to tune. Jp makes a good setup as well as proof research.
As to loading you HAVE to FL size or it's going to be a shit show. It's not a good round for neck sizing only even in a bolt gun.
Depending on your accuracy goals, I'd honestly say give factory ammo a run I know of a few guys having excellent results from American eagle or Prime ammo in 6.5 gas guns. Then save the brass as in the long run, you get more for your money vs buying brass to load with because of very reasonably priced ammo, especially the American eagle.

I load 6.5 but for a bolt gun. My gun loves the Federal OTM 140's as well as the Nosler CC 140's. I have Hornady, Nosler, Federal, and Prime (Norma IIRC) brass stocked up. Running a bushing die with 3 different sized bushings, I can't get neck tension on the Hornady stuff because it's so thin. Nosler is definitely the thickest (and most expensive). I'm fairly new to the caliber and haven't loaded more than a few hundred rounds. For brass life and out of the pool of brass I have, it seems like Nosler > Prime > Federal > Hornady. Hoping to get my hands on some Lapua brass in the near future.

I have been looking at the HP bolts from JP, Rubber City, and a few others. I bought the 24" heavy profile Ballistic Advantage barrel when they were on sale for Memorial day (wanted the 22" but it was out of stock) but I am fine with the 24".
What kind of brass life are you seeing with your bolt guns? I am thinking of just making this a straight pull with a side charger upper. I do not really need the semi auto functionality, but it was about half the price to build an AR over a bolt action.
I have been planning on running factory ammo for a while, but I wanted to know if there was any brand I should pick just for the brass alone. I am leaning towards Hornady, but if the cheaper stuff is working well too I will give it a shot. I would rather buy a bunch of quality ammo to start.

Most guys see maybe 5 firings from Hornady brass in a bolt gun, it's not the best brass in any way shape or form except maybe price.
I'm on 13-15 loads on Prime brass in a bolt gun. Good stuff.
Hornady gave me 5 or so.

I like the hornady myself. The AE 140gr is a very nice performer, for factory.

IMR 4350. It's almost everywhere, since everyone want's H4350. I'm happy with the results, but it's a bolt action.
If you have a lot of varget, try it. RL15 ? seems to be a well like powder also.
Powders of choice? I am thinking of sticking to Varget, but I have been reading about a lot of people liking H4350. It appears that H4350 is not in stock anywhere so it must work well...
Varget is way too fast. 4350 or 4831 is going to be best.

Any thoughts on the new Starline brass for 6.5Creedmoor?
