What's your #1 driving song?

I'm driving overnight to Iowa Thursday night. I'll pick up the wife from work at 2300 and we're gone. She will crash immediately. I'm looking for the best driving tunes for the 11-12 hour ride.

I'll probably just build a playlist from this thread, in order - hopefully there's stuff I haven't thought off or even heard of.

I'm into almost anything from Rush to Slayer, Pink Floyd to Beastie Boys, so really nothing is out of bounds (except pussy boy band shit and whining girl songs).

I'm starting with:
Rush: Red Barchetta.

Scorpions - Big City Nights

Hadn't thought of that song in years, but after reading the songs above, it popped into my head.

When you gas up in Kearny, hand your spouse the noise cancelling headphones.
I try setting the music up to get me comfortable for the beginning of the trip. Finger tapping music during the midway point. With (your choice) of play it loud selections to get me to the end of the trip.

Dang there sure are a bunch of headbangers here on COAR-15! [Coffee]

I have a "Road Tunes" playlist on my phone. It's actually my favorite playlist so I tend to throw everything I REALLY like in there.

I like bluesy stuff, and a lot of 80's music as well.

For an alternative to chord-crunching, groupie-groping maximum degenerate chainsaw rock n' roll, here are a few suggestions:

The road - Aaron Watson

Four Wheel Drive - Bachman-Turner Overdrive

Transmaniacon MC - Blue Oyster Cult

The Golden Age of Leather - Blue Oyster Cult (both BOC songs are "biker" songs)

Hollywood Nights - Bob Seger

Get Out of Denver - Bob Seger (because how can you leave this one off?)

Thunder Road - Bruce Springsteen

On the Road Again - Canned Heat

Oooh Las Vegas - Cowboy Junkies

Jumping Someone Else's Train - The Cure

Route 66 - Depeche Mode (Probably my favorite version of that song)

Riders on the Storm - The Doors

Guitar Town - Steve Earle

Copperhead Road - Steve Earle

Twist of the Knife - The Fabulous Thunderbirds

If You Don't Start Drinkin - George Thorogood

Everlong - Foo Fighters

Birth, School, Work, Death - The Godfathers

If I Only Had Time - The Godfathers

Rockin' Heven Down - Heart

Gypsy Man- JJ Cale

Perfectly Good Guitar - John Hiatt

Tennessee Plates - John Hiatt

Human Wheels - John Mellencamp

Sailing to Philadelphia - Mark Knopfler

What it is - Mark Knopfler

Gunbarrel Highway - Midnight Oil

By the U in Buick - John Coinman

Unknown Legend -Niel Young

Baby's in the Mountains - Peter Godwin

Cuts you up - Peter Murphy

Mach 5 - Presidents of the United States of America

Hazard - Richard Marx

King of the Hill - Roger McGuinn

Those are just some non-country recommendations.
