View Full Version : Photobucket?

As I understand, photobucket doesn't look like a good photo hosting option anymore. They have disabled linking to 3rd party sites unless you pay them almost $400 per year... Their terms have been updated to reflect this. It is yet to be seen of they will back off.

Testing.

That one worked fine.

I'm guessing maybe they are targeting based on how many images you link?

I hope it is based on number of times you link. I like PB.

I think I pay $12/month for my website, with my own SSL certificate. I've had it since 2001 or so. It's been well worth the money for me. I don't have to worry about any third party claiming rights to my content or suddenly changing the terms of the product. Something to consider between just shifting to another 'free' photo host and ponying up a couple of hundred a year for Photobucket.

I haven't uploaded a pic to Photobucket in 5 years. I've started using www.imgur.com as their upload process is easier and it's infinitely easier to get share links for pics.

I like PB, too. Probably because I've never really used anything else. Change is bad.

They killed all my links. I don't have the $ to pay them and wouldn't even if I did. I think I have used them since...I don't know...maby the 90s. Punk move on their part.

My PB worked until today. No more worky. Too many popups on there these days any ways, so it was time to move on. I'm trying flikr for now.

With this recent move, I suspect Photobucket will be out of business before to long.

Wow. I posted instructional pics on a forum over 10 years ago...and those are now toast. I couldn't begin to re-do all of the linked images I've done over the years...and I'm not about to pay their $400 extortion charge. I liked one of the comments over on The Register;

Anyone else surprised #photobucket (https://twitter.com/hashtag/photobucket?src=hash) isn't offering Bitcoin as the only method of payment?

I get that hosting stuff isn't free, but Photobucket has always been ad heavy to support itself. Now I cound understand charging a little for a service, but to suddenly break links without warning and expect $400 a year from someone that is storing their smileys is out of line. If they stick with this line, I hope they do fail.

A few years ago PB "upgraded" their site. In doing so they basically locked me out. They would not let me log on, and any communication was a joke. They would not answer emails etc.

I lost YEARS of pics that I had hosted on there, then the flood we had in the canyon destroyed the original disks.

I understand it was free, and I would have paid them to keep my pics, but not the outrageous price they are asking now.

After what they did to me, I would NOT use them IF THEY PAID ME!!! [Mad] [Mad] [Mad]

Put in the right email?

I just logged into PB for the first time in probably 3 years. "Forgot password". Emailed. Reset. Downloaded my 73 items.

Congrats to you guys that got your stuff out of Photobucket. Their site is so buried in ads from unauthenticated sources right now, I can't even make it into my library.

I wonder if my lack of usage didn't trip their stuff (i.e, is it usage based? giant library = more ads?). Only thing I had to do which was a pain was download videos individually instead of as a .zip file.

Yeah, I finally got in with Windows 10 and the Edge browser that didn't have the AdBlock extension installed. I added the extension after I got logged into my bucket. I'm shocked that they didn't make it easy to remove your content. ;) I had to download a single file at a time, deleted them from Photobucket, then cancelled my account. BUH-BYE.

FFS,

Glad I never really used them much and have everything elsewhere.

There might be a few old forum threads that will lose their image links, but no skin off my crack.

I used Waterfox, got logged in, then installed ADP. I didn't need them, but wasn't able to download an album when I tried. Did not pursue.

buh bye.

Yup.

PB nuked all my pics.

They now officially suck.

I have heard this was a hack of some sort. But honestly I will not shed a tear, I have hated PB with the passion of a thousand fiery suns for some time now. They have had loads of very questionable ads for years, and I don't know how any users could have tolerated it.

All my photos are on https://photos.google.com. Basically free and while reposting an image isn't dirt simple, it is a trick that can be taught.

$6/month gets me my own unlimited web server where I can store and host my pictures. Interface requires a bit more work than Photobucket or Google but I control my pictures and Google doesn't get to data mine anything. Anyone who complains about the NSA or FBI while feeding Google or Amazon all their personal information needs to rethink things.

I cannot test at work due to our particular content filtering, but if anyone is on a non-.gov/.mil connection, try going to the site archive.org and then pasting in https://www.ar-15.co/forum.php in the "wayback machine". It doesn't crawl all pages, but I wonder if it would have "saved" photobucket posts or not. Unsure if photobucket's settings are retroactive.

I stopped using Photobucket after all the stupid ads.

This x eleventy brazillians. Pbucket was great until a couple of years ago. Last year it got the point where I could no longer use it on my home computer, it simply would not load up, kept timing out due to all the stupid animated ads and pop ups. Tried everything including disabling ad blocker - no luck. Every now and then I would get it to upload a picture or two and then it would freeze up again.

By the end of the year I was pretty much only accessing Pbucket at work where the faster connection actually let it load. Even then it was more trouble than it was worth.

I've already deleted my accounts. Since I uploaded from my computer to Pbucket, I have all my photos, so I didn't "lose" anything. As far as Pbucket goes, they can burn in hell for all I care. [fail] They took a decent service, made it suck and then had the balls to charge a premium price for their sucky service.

As the internet meme goes "That's a bold strategy, Cotton, let's see how it works for them"

Same link on Page 1.

I went to one website and it was completely covered with the PB link warning images. They have a lot of work to do.

OK, tested my theory. archive.org's wayback machine doesn't seem to catch photos that are linked or in the threads, just avatars.

Bummer.

In my spare time, downloading/backing up all my stuff from PB onto my external HD. Then delete PB.
