Got my 1987 KLR 650 tonight. Pueblo County Sheriffs office called and said come pick it up. Battery missing. Lots of other stuff gone too. But basically intact. They painted it Mad Max camo.

I posted about it stolen in 2015.

They said they don't have enough evidence for an arrest.

Hmmm. Sounds like it might be worth getting a copy of the police report. Even though they don't have enough evidence for arrest, there may be info in the report that makes it clear to you who took it. Might be good to know. Anyway, congrats on getting it back!

Sounds like you now have a project bike for winter.

Wow, great news! I'm happy you got it back.

Any idea how many miles they put on it?

When I was dressing up my '95 I was able to find a lot of parts on eBay for cheap. Bought nearly a whole body kit from USMC pull offs. If you don't want to go that route, you could part it out. There's been a good sized market for used parts.

If you want a nasty, spray canned, and dented tank, I have one (somewhere around here). :)

ETA: I also have my original CVK40 carb if that would help you out. I jetted it for Florida and never got it running right when I came back to CO so I just replaced it. Body is good, original needles long lost, and the slide was drilled. Needs someone who knows how to "unjet" and set for our elevation.

Thanks for the offer. I just ordered a new ignition lock. I dont know how they started it. The original key doesn't work anymore. I'm guessing they have modified it. I may just buy another bike. I have the money to do it now. I will keep this one for spare parts.

Did they charge you a re-homing fee? My neighbor got his car back after quite a while. Upgraded stereo, racing stripe, maybe another upgrades. Funny part is he had to pay for 2 weeks of impound charges. About what his POS car was worth. He was pretty excited about the stereo system. My guess is the radio was stolen too.

Got it free. Raced to the scene. Got stopped by state patrol. No trailer lights. Got the lights working, except the brakes. He let me go. They only put a couple thousand miles on it. Basically they trashed the bike.

Sometimes it's better to not have the police recover the vehicle. Unless of course insurance didn't cover it.
