I want to go to this. Bet there will be some neat ideas and some tasty food.
UPDATE:
Well, bummer...
It turns out this was LAST week... the original website we saw accidentally posted last year's date for this year...
Here's the official calendar:
http://idosmedia.com/Cook-Off2014Calendar.php
Looks like 4 August is Elbert County and 6 August is Douglas County...
Sorry, I know you all are as disappointed as I was to find out I missed it.

Thanks for the info. I have done a fair job with my dutch ovens but nothing I'd want to compete with -- OTOH, I would love to pick up more ideas and tips ...
By "partake" do they mean that you get to sample food? I would love to go, haven't done dutch oven cooking since my boy scout days. But if all I can do is see and smell the food, I'm going to have to arrive on a full stomach.
I've never been. I'd assume there will be food. It will be the day after the El Paso County fair ends.
So is it just one big bed that everyone gets into? Or does each competitor have their own bed and sheets?
It's a good thing they added "cooking" to the title, otherwise some people might leave disappointed.
Who the hell wants to cook with a Dutch Oven in July?
I was cooking in a dutch oven at 12. Peach cobbler is my signature. Brazed, beaned, chllied and cobbers. Can't make the comp but am interested in the results.

I never cared for peach cobbler. I much prefer apple cobbler using fresh apples (I like using 3 varieties: Granny Smith, Gala, and Fuji), lots of cinnamon and nutmeg, and a nice streusel topping.

This is exactly the reason why I opened this thread. If not one else made a joke, I was going to.

Winner!
Yeah, when I saw the title the first thing that came to mind was the image of a pissed off wife struggling for air.

61 years old and NEVER eaten anything cooked in a dutch oven.....never tried because I'm certain I'd burn the living shit out of it.
well shoot, go to the Elbert county one and see how it's done. Dutch oven cooking done right is great.

Pretty hard to do if you use charcoal briquettes. 10 or 12 on the bottom, 16 on top, pretty much have to leave it forever in order to burn stuff -- and if you do that, the briquettes will burn out. Just don't place it directly on a campfire, pull it aside so you can control the heat.

^ Make sure if you decide to buy a dutch oven to get the one with the top that holds briquets. Funniest thing I ever saw was a new guy trying to keep briquets on a round top oven [ROFL2]

Yeah, I could see where that might be frustrating but I'd just build a top ring with crumpled aluminum foil to keep the briquettes in place.
