I sold my Cummins and sooner than later I'll be needing to get another vehicle. I did tell myself I wouldn't get another Dodge but did run across 1500 with the V6. Anybody have any opinions on this? I'm trying to keep it under$29,000

solid motor, been around a significant number of years. Never hear many complaints... tons of them in the jeep products.

I say buy used. This was under $20K and has pretty much every bell and whistle. The original sticker was in the glove box and was over $42K.

Dang Ray! What year and how many miles if you don't mind me asking and where did you get it from? I will never buy a new vehicle unless I got one hell of a deal

It's a 2010 but I bought it about three or four years ago and it had just over 80K miles when I bought it.

It had cool stuff like a power sliding rear window, satellite radio, and remote start.

And, it's got a hemi.

Oh, and I got it off the lot at a local dealer so I'm sure I overpaid.

2wd? I didn't think they put the v6 in 4x4s... resale will be shit on a 4x2 in Colorado.

the 3.6L is a good engine, but not for a truck... good powerband, but the torque isn't down low like it should be- was fine in a challenger. Will be ok if you never tow anything.

go used, get the Hemi... any hemi 2007 or newer- solid performance and reliability. I can't speak to other brands- only other brand I've owned in a long time was GM (Suburban), and they're worse.
If you don't use it like a truck, then a Taco or other light duty could be good, too- I just don't have experience with them, since they can't tow a horse trailer.

I like Tacoma's they are just so dn expensive. I don't ever haul anything big maybe a boat every now and again. Main reason whybibsoldy Cummins.

Just look on San Antonio's craigslist. I got a rust free 3500 for about $10k less than everything comperable I've seen here.

Why so much spent. This Might be taboo But just my view, I only have the perspective that was presented by you on the forum

you lost your job and had to sell your truck that still had a sizable note. Now you are Shopping again in the 30k range.

Ideally pay cash after you have no other debit besides mortgages and a minimum 3 months total budget saved.

More realistic Spend half that get a reliable slightly older used vehicle of your picked brand and configuration and have a 4 year 300 dollar note vs 6 at 500 depending on credit.

eta I don't fit the model I described but am much closer than I was a year ago when I bought my taco

If you're cool with getting something smaller look at the Nissan Frontier. I bought mine new in 2012 and I'm about to hit 90,000 miles and I haven't had a single issue with it. Your dollar will also go a lot further vs the Tacoma. I looked at them when I bought the Frontier and there wasn't anything about the Tacoma, other than aftermarket support, that I liked better about it.

I agree with Mr.Brews

Go find a nice OBS in TX, drop it off at destroked for a swap, sell the old 7.3 to recoup some funds, and use the extra $12-15k to keep you warm at night.

Jobs not a problem since I got a job. But I don't want another dieselunless I get a trailer or something which isn't anything I want.

My buddy took a OBS in trade with 105k original miles. Nice condition they want 16k which seems ok if it was a crew cab not an extended

The 3.6 has pretty darn good reviews. A slightly used one should get you in the ballpark price wise.

The Fontier or Tacoma are great options as well. I chose the Tacoma crew cab, longbed Sport. That is an awesome truck (wife's). The Tacoma trucks pull a premium. Makes me sick. We paid 32730.00 for our 2014. I admit, the deal was to good to pass up, since we were looking for a used replacement after an accident and coming very close in pricing. This is our exact truck except half the mileage, and the paint isn't all messed up. I was shocked at the asking price. Then again, dealerships and purists think Toyota hung the moon.

Good luck on your search.

Is it just me or shouldn't you be able to buy a new truck for 20,000 Plus? I need a new truck but will refuse to pay that much for as long as I can.
Know a guy who works in town but lives in Nebraska. He bought the v6 1500 and said he still does 80 across the plains going home. I think you could change your own spark plugs lol. That's a huge engine compartment for a tiny little motor.

Hemi is easy to work on, even in a Charger... spark plugs are a half hour job for all 16, unless you wait 100k miles and the boots get stuck.. then find out they're not in stock. CHP didn't change factory plugs, bought it with 97k on it- I stuck them back together with silicone until parts came in.Has 209k now... I change the plugs every 50k and use lithium grease to keep boots from sticking. Nothing wrong with the 3.6L that a little more displacement wouldn't fix [Coffee]
