After a recent update, my Samsung S7 on AT&T was lagging hard when I pressed the home button to wake it. It was taking a few seconds from when I pressed the button to when the screen would come on.

I tried to restart today to see if that would fix the problem. The lag went away, but now the screen size is all messed up. The icons no longer fit on the screen.

I tired to change the screen resolution via the system settings. No go, I can't change it. The settings app crashes.

Not only is the screen messed up, after the restart, many of my other settings were screwy. The keyboard button click noise was turned on (previously off), my weather widget won't load, my lock screen notifications were turned off.

I tried to boot in safe mode. No fix.
I tired to boot in recovery mode and clear the system cache. No fix.

Any other ideas before I try a factory reset?

Go to Best Buy at Park Meadows and ask for the Samsung rep. They have a full time Samsung tech who has fixed my S7 after each of the pushed updates has caused problems with apps.

Sounds like bad firmware update from AT&T. I don't know if you can "roll-back" to your old firmware. Were you able to get into recovery mode? If you can eventually factory reset / restore, AT&T may force you to download the bad firmware again. Check online to see if other AT&T users are getting this same issue. If so, you may want to try to wait till they fix the firmware/issue.

Make sure you have backups!!!!!

I got into recovery mode eventually. I scared me though because after I did the secret combination of buttons to access recovery mode, the phone went blank and a little picture of a dead green droid guy came up... After seeing that for a couple minutes, it went into recovery mode as normal.

It has never shown that picture when accessing recovery mode before.

I solved the glitch. I turned on "Easy Mode" which made my icons and screen even bigger and appearing more zoomed in but at least they fit on the screen. Then I turned it off. Now they are back to normal. Just needed to find the display setting the glitch was functioning in and get that reset I guess.
