View Full Version : Registering an out of state car in Denver
I'm snagging a car with a Florida title from a coworker. As far as I know I need the following for temp tags: Title, bill of sale, insurance (this is what I needed last time to register my outback). To get the plates I would need the VIN verification (does Denver DMV do this or will I have to schedule an appointment with the state police out in Golden (if I'm remembering it right)?) and the emissions test. Is there anything super important I'm missing on this or will this have all my ducks in a row?
Envirotest emissions centers Will do VIN verifications. Unless something has changed in the last few years.
You'll be there to do emissions anyways.
Ah excellent. That should make things quite a bit easier.

Quite a few car dealerships do VIN verification for free too.

And we don't have a state police; we have the State Patrol, which is an entirely different entity than a state police agency.

For plates:
* Your county Sheriff or local police department should do VIN verifications for free.
* You won't need an emissions test unless your car is older than 2011 (this year).
* DL
* Make sure your title lists the vehicle weight or you have the Mfg's Statement of Origin or you will need a certified weight slip with the vehicle weight.
* If the vehicle is financed you will need the details of the loan which should have been provided to you by your financial institution.

I stand corrected, although I did not need proof of an emissions test for an out-of-state vehicle titled/registered yesterday. Thank you clerk at station #11 @Jeffco Motor Vehicle [emoji12]
