View Full Version : Case lube
When I learned to reload I was taught to roll every rifle case on the rcbs lube pad. Now I am learning that there are lots of other ways to lube cases. What are you guys' perfered methods? (Mostly 308 556 and 30-06 if that matters)
If I'm doing volume loading, I make my own lube with alcohol and pure lanolin. I lay out the cases on a sheet pan, couple quick spritz of lube then I roll them around to coat evenly. Allow the alcohol to dry before loading. For single stage resizing, I use Imperial sizing die wax. I could probably use my spray lube, but I don't volume load single stage and I won't have to wait for the alcohol to dry.
I also make up my own alcohol/lanolin lube. I put a handful or so of brass into a gallon zip lock bag and spray the lube a couple of times into the bag and then shake. I open and allow to air a bit before sizing.
Same as above. Lanolin can found on Amazon or health food store. I use the red Heet gas treatment which is real close to 100% alcohol. One bottle to 1oz of lanolin. I resize then tumble clean then load me up.
Just make sure to let the alcohol evaporate prior to loading, but the alchohol/ISO-heat is the best way to live for volume.

As said by others, if you just want an on the shelf product then use Dillion case lube, same as the homemade above, and more $$$$
