Good luck!
Good luck, fellas! A warm weather hunt in early September would be nice but poses problems like hunting at higher elevations and packing meat out very quickly. Personally, I like having tracking snow and usually get that in late October, but then I'm wearing multiple layers and sometimes pac boots.
Bring home the meat, boys!

You will hit it better than me. I was up last week and this week. Hot, lots of people, and a full moon did us in.. saw some bulls, missed a bear but it was rough hunting! Elk werent moving or bugeling... what was crazy is they werent hitting wallows either.. on the last day we found a couple wallows that were being hit arpund 12000 ft but that was it. This was by montrose.. good luck! I hope to make it back up hunting before season ends but thinking if i do i might be facing a divorce so guessing im probably done! :-/

I've been out all this weekend for archery. Not seeing many people, only two today, but it has been very hot and the elk are not moving. Need a cold snap to get the rut going. I'm thinking the rut is going to run really late this year, possibly first season rifle at the weather outlooks.

I've been out the last 6 days and it's been like others have said. Wicked hot and dry - mid 70's at almost 11k feet? WTF? We had a good dump of rain one day, but that was it.
I did see 2 sattelite bulls but no cows with them of course (cow tag).
I have a few days to go out locally for deer. Doubt I'll see elk down here now, but who knows.
Been too cold for Aug. but not good enough for elk season. Sux!!
Still, good luck.

Snow expected in high country area around Vail as the news has predicted but who knows. Hopefully brings in the beginning of the rut for everyone for the last of archery and muzzle loader!

Thats what i am counting on. Ill be out next week..trying to finish strong
Just got back....
Shot a 6x6 but a little high. Tracked blood for several hundred yards and it started raining heavy and lost the trail. Had several people look, I looked for several days and never found him. I'm sick.....
Between looking I spotted a 350+ bull that consistently stayed in the same spot most of the day, I made it up to 170 yards but couldn't take the shot, got within 100 and he winded me and disappeared. Again, I'm sick.....
Called in another bull this morning after my shitty Irish setter boots who claim "waterproof" soaked my feet and socks with a nasty cold.... wind was swirling and yet again I got winded.
Very little bugling, almost all at night or within 30 min of shooting light +\-
Very hot until this morning when I got snowed on, then sleet, then hail, then snow, then rain.
Here's to next year.....

Just got back from my last muzzy hunt this year. I went out every day since opening day: 5 full days at camp then at least one morning or evening locally.
Up at camp I saw a couple of bull elk - I have a cow tag. I coulda smoked one of them easily too. So cool to be so close and he had no clue.
Today I saw a bull and cow moose together (just like last year). No moose tag, of course. They came to about 15 yards of me. I was getting a little freaked. The bull was mature and freaking HUGE.
Then I see a buck within easy shot range standing on this hill like he was a friggin target from Cabelas. I got a doe tag, naturally.
I saw everything I couldn't take this year. Yeah, I pissed off the hunting gods somehow. But that's hunting. Can't wait for next year!

That was my luck as well...saw plenty of bucks even a monster buck on opening day...Doe tag!!! Saw like 3 doe and 2 were on private lands, plus all the damn sheep in the area are not helping!! 5days of hard hunting 7+ miles a day of stalking and no more does. Till next year!
If only you had two more buddies to help you search!!!

It's been too hot everyone I've been with friends for archery and muzzle loader. No sign of the rut in any way from the heat and not much sign. I'm expecting a late rut this year, most likely 1st season rifle. I've got hopes for success on 3rd season rifle for a bull.

4 guys...3 doe tags and 1 buck tag...at least I put my buddy on a couple of bucks, just kept giving us the slip!
Just a note for you muzzleloader guys, now you can buy an integrally suppressed muzzleloader, the SilencerCo Maxim 50. "No regulation (no 4473, no $200 tax stamp, no photographs, and no fingerprints), greatly reduced recoil and a 2/3 reduction of smoke emissions when compared to non-moderated muzzleloaders." Pretty nifty!

Can't use it in Colorado. Not in the form pictured anyway.

Why's that?

It doesn't come with sights because states have different hunt rules for muzzleloaders, so you'd have to put iron sights on it for Colorado.
Would make more sense if the "meat" of the silencer was below the muzzle so regular low sights could be used.
Probably come out with that in version 2.0

Would the trijicon RMR red dot sight that doesn't use batteries be legal in Colorado?

I do not know the rule word for word but I am pretty sure it eliminates all possible scopes and restricts to Irons only. So not even a 0x power scope with a dot is allowed, if that existed. I am not even sure if you can use truglo/or similar iron sites or not.
My muzzleloader has Truglo sights. Unfortunately they are garbage and I've broken them to some extent 3 out of 4 years hunting. No optics allowed during muzzleloading and archery seasons. From the pictures it looks like one would need some very tall sights to use the suppressor in Colorado. I was thinking about a suppressed muzzleloader during this season though. Pretty cool that they built one.

Our blackpowder hunt was unsuccessful this year. I think it was mostly on account of all the hippy squatters camped everywhere we went. Some guy was even squatting in our annual camping spot...said he'd be there a few weeks while he waited for his multi-million dollar house to close in Aspen. Ah-huh....

We had lots of weekenders up there partying, target shooting, etc. The weather was too nice. After Monday it quieted down. Wish we'd get some really early snow one of these years.

Yep we had a group down by the lake hooping and hollering pretty much all day. Then at dusk they started shooting..ruined a fairly decent area.
