Yesterday I had my first interview in about 5 months.

Thought it went well, but you never know.

Today I had another interview with another company, again thought it went well, but you know how it goes.

An hour later the company I interviewed with today, made me an offer. I accepted since I had not heard from anyone else.

While I am filling out the paperwork for the background check, I get a call, it is an offer from the company I interviewed with yesterday.

So here is my problem

One company is a 3 month contract with a commute to Longmont, M-F 8-5

The other is 12 month contract with a 12 month extension, more $$ hr and I work from home 6pm - 2am Fri-Tue

Here I thought you had too many guns and were giving them away.

I do not see the problem, take the better offer. Call the other company and explain to them you got a better offer.

WFH, more money, longer contract, and this is a problem how?

As my brother, a Director of IT Infrastructure for a very large corporation, once advised, "They have no love for you so have no love for them. It's just business."

And it's true. You owe nothing to company 1. If company 2 is better for you, do it.

Friday Monday and Tuesday get a caffeine drip installed and work them both.

You did mention a background check but specific trade value is required before the mods get ahold of this

have you signed anything? by accepting the other job - after you accepted the first, you could be burning bridges....... than being said can you leverage the other offer - longer contract etc

Man that is tough. Can you ask the second company if they can wait 3 months until your first offer/acceptance contract ends?

This is true too. There is ZERO loyalty towards the working stiff, NONE.

Find out from Company 1 if there is an opportunity for an extension with more $$.

I'd take the offer with more money every time. Completely agree with the "they have no love for you" crowd.

Does this qualify as a C&R or will one need to do a BGC at a FFL of choice?

I took the money, longer contract and work from home.

I did explain to the other company that since I had not even finished signing the offer letter, that I was taking the other offer.

They asked if it was just about the money, I told them no, that it was a longer term contract and no commute.

The sad part is that job started Monday, the job I took will take about 2 weeks for the background check, ID badge and equipment to arrive.

But I do have outstanding work I can do to pay the bills till then :)

Well, you said you were filling out the background check for job #1. You could have just put down that you have a felony conviction for kid napping and child molestation and are wearing an ankle monitor, and walked out the door . Problem solved.

Cancel all fun for the next three months, get caught up and ahead financially.

Why the hell are you wasting your time asking the forum? More $, no commute, longer contract. You know what to do.

A 3 month contract is nothing more than surge support.

The three month contract was to engineer a solution for deploying product that the customer is selling to other customers.

I would have had to milk it to get 3 months.

As has been said, you made the right choice.

As part owner of a business, owner/only employee of a second business, and part time contractor/consultant to 2 other companies, I can tell you that it is on you to take care of yourself with 95+% of all companies out there.

Look out for yourself. It's business. You don't owe the company anything beyond what is in the contract.

Yeah, you're good. I would let the first company know that something came up that, in spite of your initial excitement about the offer, means that you have to respectfully decline the offer. Blame it on your spouse if you have to. [Coffee]

I did, I was upfront and let them know pretty quickly.

They did right by me, and I am grateful for the effort they put forth to get me in front of their client. But at the end of the day, I had a choice and the other offer was in my best interest.

I know they were not happy, but they did have other candidates.

I say better offer for the longer job. Explain to the other guy that you are guaranteed to be employed longer with the other company and you have to do what's best for you financially.

I respect your concern.
It shows attributes that I certainly would want in a contractor or employee.
Thanks for posting.

This is awesome news! :)

It never fails- these things come in herds and then you have a moral conundrum vs. security. I feel your angst, but am also glad you will have a steady job. :)
