View Full Version : Gunnar Optiks Computer Glasses - Wow
One of the guys at work has a pair of Gunnar Optiks glasses w/ yellow lenses to offset the blue light/glare of computer monitors. I tried them out today for about 15 minutes. Decided to see the difference and took them off. Felt like I was staring at the sun. He let me wear them the rest of the day and he's letting me borrow them over the weekend.
I'm definitely getting a pair. After about 3 hours of use into the afternoon, when my eyes would be getting tired/headache setting in/etc., I had no issues. I wake up and study for school/catch up on news/etc. = computer screen for 1 hour; work = computer screen for the better part of 8 hours; study when I get home = computer screen for ~1.5-3 hours.
These. things. are. great. I highly recommend daily computer users check em out. You can get prescription lenses too if you need them (won't fit over regular glasses).
Edit (in italics) Non-prescription versions are fairly inexpensive -- $50 - $80; they're on govx (like promotive). The prices, while better, also do not include shipping. Thus, Amazon is actually the best deal for Prime members.

I bought a pair of similar glasses for computer work too. They make a big difference for sure. Paid 30-40 bucks for non prescription. Most folks that try them like them.
I have co-workers that use the Gunnar Optiks every day, so they must like them.
I have progressives for staring at my screens all day since I'm over 40. Coated to reduce blue light, without the yellow tint. I have a clear pair and a light grey tinted pair for when I have headaches to reduce the amount of light reaching my eyes. I primarily use the grey tint these days since I have photosensitivity from the antibiotic I've been on the past year.
If your career has you at a computer all day, make sure you get your eyes checked to make sure they're healthy and not being strained. Cutting the blue light reaching they eyes definitely reduces strain and fatigue.
Also use quality sunglasses that block UV during the day. Regular use really helps maintain your night vision.
Yeah, I have blue eyes, so I have sunglasses on anytime I'm outside and it's not night.
Definitely getting a pair of these.

I have blue eyes as well. I didn't realize I was genetically afflicted with something. ;) Just found through experience that my eyes are more comfortable outside with shades, so I've been using them since my teens.

Anyone know of local dealers? Would like to try and check styles before ordering. I’m noticing the computer starts to bug me now that I’m getting up there in age.

Best Buy near me has a style or two. If you want to see a proof of concept, breaking out a pair of the old yellow shooting glasses gets you most of the effect.
You also mitigate some of the blue light impact on your circadian rhythm.
Before you buy these glasses try going into the monitor color menu and cranking down the blue to 90-95%. I find that it makes my eyes less tired at the end of the day. Probably same effect.

they run between $34-$70 on gov-x
It's not just the blue light, but the glare also.
I suppose if anyone wanted to try before buying, a similar effect could be had w/ yellow lens shooting glasses.

I cheated for a number of years. I let my cataracts filter the brightness for me. But I had to get them fixed so I did what you said. That has taken care of the problems I had with the strong light coming out my monitor limiting my computer time. I was wearing sunglasses working with my computer until I stumbled across what you suggest.
Do these come in "cheaters?" I have to wear 125 or 150 when working on my mobile workstation @1920x1080 native res, whether on the laptop screen or a 24" external.

I don't wear eyeglasses normally, aside from sunglasses, so I'm not sure what you mean exactly. They do have prescriptions available, and also different reading glasses style settings.
If you mean 1.25-1.50, yes you can get them in that.

Adjust the RX settings on the slider.
Cheaters, a.k.a. "reading glasses" with magnification but no other correction. Used by people that have outstanding vision until they reach their 40s but then find their arms become too short for reading.
