I'm not saying you have to carry a pocketknife to be a man, but if you don't, the man who does gets to cut a corner off your man card with his knife when you need one.

Make sure everyone sees you clean your fingernails with your knife before cutting the bread. That should cut down your bread-serving workload substantially. That way you can focus on the gun.

I never leave the house without a knife and a flashlight. My wife thought I was a freak, until I pointed out how many times she borrowed them without thinking about it. Now she carries one of each. The point was driven home when we were at a concert venue at night, and the damn power went out. A cell phone is a damn poor substitute for a proper flashlight.

Actually when I was 19 I was stationed in a rather liberal part of the country and ended dating several liberal girls. On one occasion I went to the dorm to hang out with her and some of her friends. They had to get into a box or something and couldn't figure it out and I produced my handy SpiderCo folder, proudly displaying some western US - Colorado - Alpha male-ness. They all were in shock that I would have such a menacing 3 inch blade with serrated edge just waiting to do such jobs as open up the crap they couldn't get into. All I said, fairly condescendingly was, "It's merely a tool." That literally changed their demeanor and they were all calm and appeared to understand.
