View Full Version : Can 18 YO possess handgun
Years ago an 18 year old could buy a handgun from a private seller and be legal to possess (not ccw). Did any of this change when they made mandatory FFL transfers on private sales? Any source to back your answer is also appreciated.

I think the only way someone under 21 can legally acquire a handgun would be as gift from an immediate family member.

I can't link directly to it so here is a copy/paste
Colorado Revised Statutes 18-12-112. Private firearms transfers - background check required
(6) The provisions of this section do not apply to:
(b) A transfer that is a bona fide gift or loan between immediate family members, which are limited to spouses, parents, children, siblings, grandparents, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, first cousins, aunts, and uncles;
Or an 80% build.
Or a 0% build. :)
(b) A transfer that is a bona fide gift or loan between immediate family members...
Note there's a world of difference between "bona fide gift" and "straw purchase".
